Goin' to Hershey
I'll be heading up to Hershey to soothe my hockey jones and to get a look at some of the young 'uns down on the farm. I'll be staying in Lancaster, and driving into Hershey on Saturday and Sunday night.
Given that I'll be "scouting" some of the players for a future FanPost on here, I should have purchased seats up high in the 200-level, but curiosity and the draw of novelty got the better of me (I sit in the 400-level at the VC), so I'll be sitting further down toward the glass in section 126.
First, is anyone else headed up to the game? Second, can anyone recommend any restaurants/bars in the area? It's my first time venturing up in that direction, so any suggestions are welcome.
If anyone is headed up there, hit me up in the comments and we'll meet up for a beer.
If this FanPost is written by someone other than one of the blog's authors, the opinions expressed in it do not necessarily reflect those of this blog or SB Nation.

Yup, I had the same idea. There’s a tweetup behind section 115/116 at each intermission. I’ll be there with my dad and my brother – figured we’d drive up for the game Saturday night and then hit Hersheypark on Sunday (staying overnight). Subway’s got $14 off coupons for Hersheypark admission in May.
There’s a Houlihan’s on Chocolate Avenue that’s pretty good, and they have a bar. If you’re looking for just chow, them or Red Robin is good. There’s also a Bob Evans a little further down if you like that kind of thing.

Ah, Red Robin. Yet another awesome Seattle export. ;-)

Yea, we had the same idea too! We’re heading up for tonight’s game too. We’ll be on section 207. We’ll probably hit the Red Robin or Applebees.

Hershey, America's favorite chocolatebar
I’ll be up there for Sunday’s game.
Hershey has a lot of dining options as far as your chains go. Off of Hersheypark Drive near Mae St, when you get off of US 422/322, you got your standard stuff like Applebee’s and Fuddrucker’s and all, though that’s all technically Hummlestown in case you’re trying to type something into GPS.
After years of experience, I generally recommend not going to Red Robin in Hershey before big games or when it’s a weekend and the park is open. Normally, the wait is very long because everybody and their mother has the same idea. Unfortunately, the closest restaurant to Hersheypark is Red Robin and Wendy’s.
Though the last time I went I drove behind the park on a back road called Park Blvd. It’s a back, less traveled road you can access from the parking lot. There’s this dive bar that’s on that road that looked like a tempting adventure just for the sure fact that they displayed a sign advertising “the best food in town.”
The Chocolate Avenue area has a couple options. Houlihan’s had just opened up the weekend I went up in December to see a game and the wait was like two hours, I’m sure that has changed. As gotsparky said, the bar is nice. Well, from the view of the full seats.
We managed to walk down the street to this little pizza and Italian food place and had a nice cheap, very filling and very tasty meal. It’s a no frills family place sans bar. There’s a couple other restaurants. Chocolate Avenue Grill is closed on Sundays.
(On a sidenote, of the dozens of times I’ve went to Hershey or to Hummlestown to buy hockey equipment when they had a store, December was the first time I went to downtown Hershey. Kinda forget about it when you got roller coasters, concerts, hockey and chocolate. But it’s worth a see.)
Since you’re in Hershey, do yourself a favor and get some chocolate. Parking and getting into Chocolateworld is free (and sometimes challenging because of the free part). You have some gimmicky stuff like make your own Kiss or Kit Kat package, but stroll on down to the food court.
You can’t say no to a Reese’s peanutbutter pie staring you inside a chilled case, knowing it’s as fresh as it can get.
What will I do Sunday? Venture. Whatever time I roll in, my journey for food will begin.
My sister and I will be in Section 110 Row F.
If anyone attempts to get tickets (if they’re not sold out already), don’t fret about 200-level. They’re still really, really good seats and you can see the ice well. I sat in the last row before and almost preferred it simply because you have a lot of walking space above your seat in some sections.
Sure beats wooden seats and handrails to protect you from a deathly fall at the old barn.

110? I’ll be about five rows behind you :)

Except I’m going Saturday. Never mind :)

I’m headed up there as well Saturday. That Italian place is pretty good, went there before the last game I attended. Also went to some random bar afterwards (Shakey’s, maybe???) to catch the Caps-Sharks game. Not the best place in the world, but definitely not the most dive bar-ish place either.
I bought tickets around 6 Friday night and still got lower levels, albeit in the corner, fairly high up, 112-T, IIRC.

Where is that place?

Uhhh…. No idea? I feel like it was across the street from Houlihans but I could be completely wrong. I’ll look it up and let you know!

It was Sorrento’s. Its on the corner of Cocoa Ave. & W Chocolate Ave, on the corner opposite Houlihan’s. Yay, I’m not going crazy!

Oh, okay. Good deal, and thank you. Always looking for new places to go when I’m up there.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Maybe I’ll see some of you behind section 115/116 during the intermission.
