Here's to letting go of the pain

The Caps have never won the Cup.

The Caps do not have the single, uniting, defining moment that the fans of most teams can point to.  That one day when we were on top of the world.

Locally, even Redskins fans that weren't alive for the Gibbs run and O's fans not alive for the Weaver (and Altobelli) days can talk about the legends of those days.  John Riggins dragging Don McNeal.  Tippy Martinez picking three off.  These are the things legends are made of.  Even the Wizards can look back at Wes Unseld and Elvin Hayes.  (The Nats get a pass - for now)

But the Caps don't have their day - yet.  So we hang onto our moments of pain.  Dancing with a trash can around a locker room.  Pat LaFontaine.  Petr Nedved.  The limo.  21 game suspension.  Wings in 4.

Well, this is a new team.  A new day.  For once, we're the ones with the hot goalie.  With the best player in the world.  With the coach that makes you wish you were on that team, or just in that locker room soaking it up.

So I say to hell with history.  To hell with Pain.  Tomorrow is a new day for this franchise.

I Believe.
