Ready for some fire wagon hockey?

The Lightning didn’t play any D to start with, and now they’ve lost Vinny and Malone. You know that this brings out the worst tendencies in the Caps. I figure this one for a high scoring affair. Real high scoring. Caps might hang 7 or 8 on the Bolts this afternoon. And they might just let 4 or 5 in themselves.
Prediction time!
I’ll go with 8-4 Caps. Ummm…Backstrom with a hattie.
This is an awfully lame fanpost, I know…but it’s 3+ hours to game time, and you know how it goes.

Koharski, eh? This should be entertaining. Well only if entertaining is defined by a poorly officiated hockey game.
I was about to comment that this is a pretty ugly ref draw tonight.

As a SE division fan I probably will be watching developments that affect the Panthers as much as the Caps game tonight.
If the Lightning finish 3rd from the bottom vs 2nd from the bottom does that hurt their percentage stake in the #1 pick lottery? Or is it 25%, 25%, 25%, 25%?
It appears the Lightning do have some small motivation not to win tonight as I was thinking:
The club selected in the lottery may not move up more than four positions in the draft order. Thus the only clubs with the opportunity to receive the 1st overall selection are the five clubs with the lowest regular-season point totals (or clubs that acquired those clubs’ first-round drafting positions). No club can move down more than one position as a result of the lottery. Under the weighted lottery system, the club with the fewest regular-season points will have the greatest chance (25%) of winning the lottery and will pick no lower than second at the Entry Draft.
Fourteen balls, numbered 1-14, are placed in a lottery machine and four are drawn, forming a series of numbers. A probability chart, created by Bortz & Company, divides the possible combinations among the 14 participating clubs. The four-digit series that results from the balls drawn are be compared to the probability chart to determine the team to which that combination has been assigned.
The percentage chance of being selected in the lottery is as follows, based on team finish:
30th……….. 25.0% (250 combinations)
29th……….. 18.8% (188 combinations)
28th……….. 14.2% (142 combinations)
27th……….. 10.7% (107 combinations)
26th………….8.1% (81 combinations)
25th………….6.2% (62 combinations)
24th………….4.7% (47 combinations)
23rd………….3.6% (36 combinations)
22nd………… 2.7% (27 combinations)
21st………….2.1% (21 combinations)
20th………….1.5% (15 combinations)
19th………….1.1% (11 combinations)
18th………….0.8% (8 combinations)
17th………….0.5% (5 combinations)
There are 1,001 numerical combinations possible, with one combination eliminated to make the odds fair; if the eliminated combination is drawn (a 0.1% probability), the drawing is immediately re-done.
After the club selected moves up, the balance of the first 14 draft selections are adjusted by one, with the appropriate clubs moving down one slot to accommodate the winner, if necessary. Here’s a chart showing the chances of each team picking in a given spot:
Forwards
Ovechkin-Fedorov-Fehr
Fleischmann-Backstrom-Semin
Laich-Nylander-Kozlov
Steckel-Aucoin-Bradley
Defense
Morrisonn-Green
Erskine-Pothier
Schultz-Jurcina
"Thank God there is a sport for middle-sized white boys.."
I agree. Aucoin is a poor faceoff man and not all that great in the defensive zone while Steckel is great on draws and a good defensive player. Doesn’t make sense to me.
Aside – I hate the Jurcina/Schulz pairing. I feel like the overall lack of mobility makes if difficult for each guy to play within his comfort zone and succeed. Although I suppose with Poti out, it might be hard to avoid having a pairing that lacks speed.
I’ll wait and see on that 4th line, I bet Aucoin ends up at LW.
As for the D, doing it Schultz – Green and Mo – Juice is probably the only way to even out the speed some, but a) Schultz doesn’t really deserve top line minutes right now and b) this game isn’t all that critical. As long as that Schultz – Juice pairing isn’t seen again in an important game, I can deal.
BB was quoted as saying he’s jacking his lines around to prevent opponents from scouting them for the playoffs.
Makes sense to me. I mean, if they can’t beat Tampa due to line combos, they just didn’t show up to play anyway. They could play Erskine, Jurcina and Leonhardt as the first line and still win, I have to think.
anyone watching that game? what do you think of that call? remarkably similar to the brooks laich goal against gerber.
You mean “creme-filled”.

I think I’m watching the Tampa feed (just got home), they said Tampa has 1st 8 SOG’s, does that mean the Caps have 0 SOG?

Rangers win they’re in and it kills Buffalo. If Habs lose and then lose again, and the Panthers win out, Panthers are in. But I might be missing something here, so don’t take my word on it other than Rags win and in.

Assuming both losses are in regulation, the Rangers would hop up to 8th and the Canadiens fall to 8th.
But if Atlanta wins, it kills the Panthers. They’re leading 1-0…I smell SE Division rivalry!

I thought the games were on Versus last year? CSN pull some strings?

Versus only shows two games a night, so the games that aren’t on VS go on CSN.

nah, but I think they do “check in” on game when a game is finished. Could be wrong. Either way, there’s going to be lots of hockey to watch on TV soon and that makes me very happy

4-3 Habs
Bruins-Canadiens. Bruins just missed an empty net after Price took himself out of the play then the Canadiens came back and scored.
Factoid
Green has more TOI on the PP than Kozlov has in all situations so far tonight.

B’s just won in OT. I only saw the OT but wow, looked like a crazy game. Bruins win season series 5-0-1 and those two teams would play each other if the playoffs began today.
