It seems like everybody's got their favorite basis for guessing what will happen in the playoffs. The Hockey News seems to think that the giveaway/takeaway ratio is a measuring stick for postseason success. Maybe it's one of them.
But something doesn't smell right to me with this. Aren't there a lot of potential predictors, and they could all be wrong? Besides, aren't giveaways and takeaways subjective and vary from arena to arena? How can you put a solid measuring stick on those?
What do you think are the best measuring sticks to the postseason, if there are any? I don't have any real opinion - I just don't know and I'm looking to you guys for help.
