Playoff teams' record vs other Playoff teams
I just went through this really quick and found it pretty interesting that the Caps had the best regular season record out of the remaining teams vs the teams that remain. again I know regular seasons numbers don't mean a lot, but just something I thought I'd share.

Looking at this on a points per game basis confirms this. Unless my math sucks, possible since I don’t feel like double checking the following:
Boston played 17 games…26 points
Washington played 18 games…28 points
Pittsburgh played 17 games…17 points
Carolina played 19 games…14 points
Detroit played 19 games…25 points
Chicago played 19 games…18 points
Vancouver played 16 games…17 points
Anaheim played 17 games…12 points
Just out of curiosity, is there anything more than anecdotal evidence to suggest a lack of correlation between regular season head-to-head matchups and playoff series matchups?
I hear this thrown around a lot as though it’s the gospel truth, and I’m not sure I’m buying it. This has the smell of an “unexamined truth” to me.
We beat Anaheim? Moot point, likely, but I thought we lost every game that swing. Weird.
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
Yeah, we crushed Anaheim – but that was the game where Green got smushed by Pronger, and I think that’s where Sergei first hurt his ankle. The next night, we got creamed by LA, then followed that up a few days later by getting pounded by SJ.
I wouldn’t say “crushed”. Caps jumped out to a 6-2 lead, then took some penalties and it got close, ended 6-4.
Yeah, but the Caps did that a lot this year. If you look at their record, they only had 5 games where they won by 4 or more goals. For a team with this kind of offensive firepower, you’d think that they’d have a handful of 7-1 or 8-2 games, but they really didn’t.
I guess my point is that the Caps let a lot of teams score soft goals at the end of games that were already essentially decided, such as game 6 vs. the Rangers.
For all the troubles with Western Teams...
The Caps went 4-0 vs. the remaining teams, including a dominant performance over Vancouver ( a 5-1 win with Vancouver only getting 10 shots on goal….)
Let's go Caps!
