Me too. I’m nervous as hell.

It is my birthday too, so that means we have to win…. right?

I am sure Vogel or Kolbe can tell us how the Caps have fared on April 28 in the past.

The Caps are 3-2 all-time on April 28, with wins over Jersey, Boston and Buffalo and losses to Pittsburgh and the Isles.

Pho Style

1) for the love of Peter, stay out of the box. The Rags have only a miniscule chance 5 on 5 against us tonight, so let’s not give ‘em hope with PM after unnecessary PM. Sasha Rabbit, I’m looking at you.

2) cut the cute crap. I enjoy the perfect pass to set up the perfect goal, but shot / deflection / rebound is the order of the night tonight. Tommy Flash, borrow some balls from Bradley. He seems to have plenty to spare.

3) impose our will. From faceoff to faceoff, we win at the half wall, below the goal line and in front of the net—at both ends—and we move on to round 2.

1) Right on.

2) Double right on.

3) That’s IT!! We don’t NEED to be lucky, we just need to play right. So we could win with luck, we could win with skill. But it will take bad poor effort to lose. Why did I ever doubt we would win?

by fat_daddyo on Apr 28, 2009 5:59 PM EDT up reply actions

So that you wouldn’t feel so bad when they lost. I thought they would win Game 7 last year, and after they lost, I was really sad for a week. The team is so frustrating! They give you hope, suck it away, give it back again, and then no one knows what happens next.

by red army line on Apr 28, 2009 6:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Dude, I hear you.

In all honesty, here’s what I think about tonight. The Caps probably win. They might not. But if they play this game 10 times, the Caps probably win 8 of them.

We can only sit, wait, hope and slaughter a chicken over a stylized mannequin of John Tortorella.

Why is our coach so dumb?

Colton Orr scratched again. He played every regular season game, the first five of this series and then when he was needed most he was scratched. So what does Torts do? Scratch him again. FOR AARON VOROS!!!!

Voros did get hot at one point, right? Like 5 goals in 3 games? And what will Orr do if Brashear is not playing?

by red army line on Apr 28, 2009 6:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Seven points in four games – Games 2-5 of the season. Nine points over the 49 games.

As for Orr – he would do exactly what Brash did, outside of the intentional attack. Forecheck, hit, hammer and pressure.

Tarik will also be chiming in every so often, and I’ll also try to throw in some chatter from our three — yes, three — columnists here tonight (Mike Wise, Tom Boswell and Michael Wilbon).

I sure hope that nobody was denied a press pass so Wilbon could be there. He should be persona non grata. Boswell at least shows humility about hockey. Wilbon flaunts his ignorance.

by Natty Bumppo on Apr 28, 2009 9:53 PM EDT up reply actions

and on that note...

Somebody would probably have to pull a gun and literally shoot Avery in the head for him to draw a penalty. It’s almost comical. Don’t worry, I’m a Caps fan BUT it was pretty funny to see Avery get run left and right (a taste of his own medicine, sure) and get no whistles. My nightmare was that we were going to have to see him celebrate a GWG of his own, which would surely have been a bad memory I’d take to the grave.

Avery did a lot of acting

and a lot of diving. He embellished a lot tonight.

Speaking of Avery...

The Caps best “defender” with 2 mins left? How about Avery’s horrible acting job after Ovie’s hit. Real smart spending 30 seconds acting hurt and making it 5 on 4 when the games on the line Sean.

1) It was Feds that hit him

2) As much as I despise him, I highly doubt he was acting. He got hit with a knee on knee and twisted awkwardly. That hurts.

I've been through many Caps-related disappointments

…overtime in a Game 7 obviously hurts, Esa Tikkanen obviously hurts…BUT conceding two goals to go from winning to losing in the space of the last two minutes of a Game 7? That’s on another level.
