Captain Clark likely for Game 7

"Bruce Boudreau wouldn't say for sure, but Chris Clark prepared during the morning skate as if he's going to suit up for tonight's Game 7 against the Rangers at Verizon Center. If does get in, he'll be the right wing on the fourth line with Boyd Gordon at center and Eric Fehr moving to the left side." - Capitals Insider

Oddly enough, that line could potentially strike gold.

Fehr will get 6 minutes tops, so I’m not sure Clark should expect much more.

If I’m Bruce, I’m riding my studs as much as I can early. They rested on Sunday, they should be good to go.

by Chimaera on Apr 28, 2009 11:25 AM EDT reply actions

uhmm…I am not sure if by studs you mean OV, Semin, Green…etc. OV was playing up until the last 2 minutes of Sunday’s game.

by CapsFan on Apr 28, 2009 11:32 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, still can’t figure out why he did that.

by Jay Jay on Apr 28, 2009 11:46 AM EDT up reply actions

The past two games the checking lines have been answering the call because Bradley got two goals in the first period in game 5 and he helped make the defensive play to set up the first one in game six. To my knowledge, Bruce rode the studs early in the first two games, and it didn’t make a difference. Sometimes I think this Rangers team is beaten by the hard working guys that do the dirty work in the corners and in front of the net.

by bigmac1124 on Apr 28, 2009 3:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Totally agree. No offense to our skill guys but the checkers have been of critical importance in the past few games.

I thought 14 and 21 flipped spots for some reason. God, Game 6 was forever ago…

maybe it’s wishful thinking for tonight. Laich certainly deserves #2RW time over 14.

I want domination tonight. I want to see this game wrapped up in the first period. I want to see Ovechkin licking his chops. I want to see the King de-crowned! I want jubilation at the looks on the Ranger’s faces! I want to see Tortarella choke Avery on the bench! I want to see A SEA OF RED! I WANT TO SEE THE VERY DEHUMANIZATION OF THE TEAM DRESSED IN BLUE! I WANT TO SEE THE GODDAMN VERIZON CENTER DOORS STAY OPEN UNTIL MAY! I WANT TO SEE SIDNEY CROSBY’S FUCKING FACE ON COMCAST SPORTSNET! I WANT THE WASHINGTON CAPITALS TO PLAY WITH A FURY AND A PASSION AND A DRIVE THAT SURPRISES EVEN THEM! I WANT GABBY RED-FACED WITH JOY! I WANT THE VERY LIFEBLOOD OF THE ARENA PULSATING TO DRIVE OUT THE BLUE-SHIRTED INFECTION! BUT MOST OF ALL

I want a win.

My name’s Lee by the way, just got an account on here though I’ve been lurking for a few weeks now. AWESOME blog JP, DMG, Pepper and the rest of the Old Guard here. Just look for the comb-over, Doc Martens and a white OV jersey. 405 ROCKS DA HOUSE!!!

Welcome friend. Hope there’s twelve more wins to write about after tonight’s big one.

No comb-over here, but another DC born guy still lacin’ up the 8-hole Docs well into my thirties.
Anyone else here listen to a little Fugazi or Jawbox to get in the mood for a Caps game?

by Cap74 on Apr 28, 2009 4:09 PM EDT up reply actions

Fehr probably won’t play much, as usual, but I worry about having him at left wing. Has he ever played there? It won’t matter much in the offensive zone, but he’s going to have to make the right decisions on D, and if it takes a split second longer, that can mean a puck in the net. Wouldn’t it make more sense to put Flash with Gordo and Clark and Fehr with Backstrom and Semin?

by Kirg on Apr 28, 2009 12:46 PM EDT reply actions

Yeah that would make sense. Except it means not giving Flash prime ice time. That’s just not gonna happen.

by Rob Parker on Apr 28, 2009 12:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Playing LW on D isn’t that much different than playing RW. The responsibilities are essentially the same. I’m sure that Fehr will be fine. As mentioned before, I wouldn’t expect him to get more than a handful of minutes tonight, so the risk is pretty limited.

by Sct112 on Apr 28, 2009 12:51 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree with you that playing LW on D isn’t really any different that RW on D. It does, in some cases, heavily affect odd-man rushes, however.

by bigmac1124 on Apr 28, 2009 3:18 PM EDT up reply actions

wont’ surprise me one bit to see Clark and either 8 or 19 run with him for a shift or two during the course of the game, just as a changeup.

only if the outcome is clear. i’m sure BB wouldn’t risk any distractions to the clear and present chemistry within the first two lines.

by fnralch on Apr 28, 2009 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions

agreed on present chemistry, but Bruce has shown that he’s not afraid to mix and match. It’s not typically a distraction and happens a lot throughout a game. If Clark is skating well, he could get a look for a shift on any line

Six hours to go and I am on pins and needles already

Oh man. I have no idea what to expect, I hope for the best…I’m also totally unprepared for the worst. I can’t even imagine what the fellas are feeling in the locker room. This Game 7 business is just nerve-racking.

by DonnieKnutts on Apr 28, 2009 1:12 PM EDT reply actions

Dude, my above post was inspired entirely by nerves and my desire to yell. I can barely get past how I’m feeling to think about how they’re feeling.

by DrinkingPartner on Apr 28, 2009 1:13 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m with you on this one. Just had lunch with my wife. Found myself siting across the table from her in a cafe and the only thing I could hear was “Go Caps Go” over and over in my head. This my friend is what makes hockey different from any other sport.
