Awesome:

“They won the game, and all [Torts] did was cry about the two things we won about — faceoffs and a penalty,” Boudreau said. “He’s playing the whole game and it is actually pretty lame, quite frankly. He’s talking about Nicky Backstrom, who was 48 percent this year and one of the worst centermen the first half of the year in faceoffs altogether. We went in and talked to the league and the league said they were perfectly legal, so he is just crying right now. It is a pretty dumb thing to be crying about.”

I love the bit about Backstrom – saw Tortorella noting how good the Caps were in faceoffs partially because of him and thought, “well, there’s that stellar ”http://www.japersrink.com/2009/4/15/838931/aside-from-all-that-the-best-part" target="new">Rangers scouting at work again".

I went to BU and was in DC for the Frozen Four last week so I’m a Gilroy fan, and there’s no real downside to ever signing a free agent cheap like Gilroy but you have to wonder about a 24 year old playing against 20 year olds. If Gilroy can bring his game to the NHL maybe it’ll be ok, but he’s far from a top flight talent.

Yeah it’s not written but it may as well be. I’m just using it as an example of bright line rules to make it easier for the ref to call the game. You could call the stick-break-slash an interference and I think it would be more accurate. You took a guy out of the play who was nowhere near the puck by breaking his stick.

by Rob Parker on Apr 18, 2009 1:48 PM EDT up reply actions

I wouldn’t have such a problem if those composite sticks didn’t shatter so frequently and randomly. They break on wrist shots for cripe’s sake. Sometimes it’s just a tap on the stick to knock the puck away but because those sticks are so poorly made it breaks.

Incidentally, the worst thing about composites is that it led to the decease of the heavy wooden stick which I loved.

That is a horrible visual

Green, Ovechkin, and Kozlov gliding and watching Callahan bury it.

That entire play is a perfect coaching tool for 10 year olds.

- cover for your defenceman (check)
- don’t pinch when covering for your defenceman (not check)
- back check hard (not check)

i’m tempted to say that Boudreau’s system is going to always give up 2 or 3 scary odd-man rushes a game, though. poti needs to play it better, and we need a goalie that will save us every now and then. earlier in the year, theodore was doing very well in situations with one man coming down on him.

mayb

but there are no excuses on that play.

after seeing the replay, poti really was useless on that goal

As opposed to all of the other times he is useless?

I have a blog too! www.scottyhockey.com

Until Wens, you could have said you had the same amount of playoff goals as him too. I bet you get knocked off the puck easier though. =]

Yeah, definitely.

To expand: I’m sure Kozlov does a million things better than I do, which is why he gets paid millions and I work in an office.

I’d still lay down cash me against him in a race.

I could be wrong, but an enterprising forward going hard to the net on a rush could pick up a juicy rebound or two.
