Penalty Plus/Minus: Round 1

With so much focus in the Caps/Rangers series on the Caps' discipline and Sean Avery, I figured it might be useful to track the penalties taken by both teams. I'll update the table below after each game.

I have a hunch the +/- on this will keep going the Caps direction, provided the puck stays in the rink on the Caps part. The Rangers have 5 restraining fouls in their 7 penatlies (Hooks, holds, trips). Voros’ interference is almost a 6th.

While the delays of game may be a problem, they’re not necessarily unavoidable. Until they get the ice so that its actually decent, I won’t blame anyone for getting an over the glass delay of game…

The Rangers have 5 restraining fouls in their 7 penatlies (Hooks, holds, trips). Voros’ interference is almost a 6th.

HHT penalties are restraining fouls, but not all restraining fouls are HHT penalties. Interference, and holding the stick also fall into that category, as does goalie interference by some definitions.

While the delays of game may be a problem, they’re not necessarily unavoidable.

The Rags didn’t have any delay of game penalities. I agree that the ice isn’t helping, but it isn’t the only reason either.

I won’t blame anyone for getting an over the glass delay of game…

I’ll certainly blame Fedorov for the one he took in Game 1. He had more than enough time to do something with that puck other than make it a souvenir.

The key there is puck possession IMO. It’s very hard to get a lot of penalties called against you when you are owning the puck like the Caps were last night (and did in game 1, for that matter).

PT# vs PT Type -- Errors?

Alexander Semin WSH 5 3 2 Hooking, Roughing, Holding, Tripping
Mike Green WSH 3 2 1 Delay of Game, 2 Hooking

FYI — if I am reading the table correctly — I don’t think the PT# and “Penalties Taken” columns add up. Semin has 3 PT but 4 penalties named under “Penalties Taken.” Green has 2 PT but 3 penalties named under “Penalties Taken.”
