Here’s to getting JT his 30th of the year.
I’d really like to see a dominant effort tonight, one that doesn’t leave anything in doubt come 10 minutes to go in the third.
I’d really like to see these uniforms again:

Also, I’d like to see a guy named Ziggy

I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
Lines
Forwards
Ovechkin-Backstrom-Fehr
Fleischmann-Fedorov-Semin
Laich-Nylander-Kozlov
Steckel-Aucoin-Bradley
Defense
Morrisonn-Green
Erskine-Poti
Schultz-Pothier
Not thrilled with the Laich-Nyles-Kozzy line
by CapitalsKremlin on Apr 1, 2009 5:52 PM EDT up reply actions
Actually, I like the Laich, Nyles, Kozzie line. Kozzie seems to be very productive with that group for some reason. Example: Detroit game, and one of the games this past month.
I kind of like it too. Koz and Nyls may be puck hogs, which hopefully will encourage Laich to shoot more. Of course, communism also looks good on paper.
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
Laich isn’t really a shooter, he’s a scrummer. He needs someone to hit the goalie’s pads and put a rebound in front of him. Nyles won’t do that, Kozzie maybe,
by CapitalsKremlin on Apr 1, 2009 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions
I mean, Laich lately when he gets the puck likes to dip around like he’s Semin or something. On a line with those two, he might get back to his old habits. Also, that line combo could be great, if Green’s d-pairing was on the ice to shoot the puck. It could also be God awful, if Green’s pairing is on the ice.

Strange question, is it possible for the Masterson to be shared. I mean, thinking of the SE alone, how can you not give it to Zednik or Pothier? I know it wont’ be but, is this an instance where it might be appropriate?
Steve Sullivan for Nashville could also win it…..but my money is on Zednik

I think Zed will get it to, but I think Pothier is deserving as well. It’s a tough year.

Nyls just wound up and took a slap shot. I just wanted you guys to know, because I’m the only person who seems to still think he can get it together. (I know JP wants it, but is starting to not think it possible.)
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
I think he can get it together too, (see here) I just think he needs the right combo of line mates.
by CapitalsKremlin on Apr 1, 2009 7:16 PM EDT up reply actions
I think he and Kozlov have a lot of similarities. Both are puck possession guys with superior eyes. Nyls just seems to be losing a step, but, eh. I also think he’d be fine if he had two quicker guys or a quick guy and a net crasher with him. He doesn’t work well with pure shooters who do best with the puck (Ovechkin, Semin) and other than Laich, the team has no real net bashers. If you were to put him with Fehr and C-Bo, I guess, I think they’d be ok.
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
Nyles style doesn’t really fit the system, Kozlov’s does. I think that’s the biggest difference.
by CapitalsKremlin on Apr 1, 2009 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions
Kozlov bangs more and speaks Russian. I don’t really see much else in the way of differences. Maybe Kozlov shoots more?
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
He’s better at drawing defenders and working the corners IMO, but that’s just me. He’s also not quite as long winded with the puck, seems to get his passes off sooner than Nylander who often is pushed off the puck waiting for the best possible pass.

Capitals Kremlin the second line center of the Caps blogosphere.
by CapitalsKremlin on Apr 1, 2009 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions
Fedorov was explaining that he was on defense during his goal because the Caps had 3 D-men in the box. Koken made some snide comment and Fedorov got annoyed, and then explained slowly, in smaller words, that he was a defenseman during that play. And Koken turned a little white.
Don’t fool around with hall of famers.
Koken said something to the effect of “So you were doing your best mike green impersonation?”

I particularly liked when Fedorov explained that he had to F-O-R-E-C-H-E-C-K during the play, looking at Koken the whole time like “am I going to have to explain what forechecking is?”

Nice win. Had to close the open thread due to my open thread jinx, but well worth it.
Fun game in the stands, although the rain and the weeknight and the fact that it was the Isles made it quieter than a lot of them I’ve seen this season. I found a seat in Chipotle, if that gives you an idea.
Schultz. Fighting. I don’t care if it was a joke. I about dropped my teeth. Good on him for stepping in, although I don’t think he wanted to.
Remember, guys, the Isles are hard workers and put up a solid fight. This is the team that shut Detroit out and forced Philly to a shootout lately. Not bad, boys. Not bad. Less cutesy in the first, please, and would love to see that moving timing play with two guys storming the crease, one on either side. So, so close to being unstoppable. Great stuff.
"It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees." - Delores Ibarruri
Thney flipped the switch finally, then flipped it off agin, and then flipped it on again at the end. Caps are driving us all nuts with the inconsistency. Playoffs can’t get here soon enough. Maybe then we will get the 60 minutes we are all hoping for.
Props to Isles. They have 1/3 the talent of the top teams, but they continue to play hard against every team they play. With Gurin gone and Streit out they are half AHL/half NHL team. McDonald was unbelievable as others mentioned. I have loved Okiposo since I saw him play at the World Juniors years ago. he gets better every shift. Kid is going to be a beast for the next 10-15 years.
The Isles remind me a lot of a team I was rooting for three years ago. Only difference is they don’t have the best player in the league.
