Here’s the rest of the release:
Della Rovere, 18, will join the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL and could make his debut tonight at Charlotte. He is also eligible to return to his junior team next season.
Della Rovere captained the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) this year and recorded 51 points (27g-24a) and 146 penalty minutes in 57 regular-season games. He played in all five playoff games for the Colts, recording two goals and two assists before the team was eliminated in the first round by the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors. Della Rovere was named to the 2009 OHL Eastern Conference All-Star team, where he recorded one goal.
The 5’11", 200-pound Richmond Hill, Ontario, native was a member of Team Canada that won the gold medal at the 2009 World Junior Championship in Ottawa. He also participated in the 2008 ADT Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Canada/Russia Challenge, an annual six-game exhibition tournament between all-star teams representing the three leagues of the CHL and a select team of Russian junior players.
Della Rovere was Washington’s seventh-round choice, 204th overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

I’d presume that because he’d be on the first year of the deal, they’ll probably put him in the A next year. But who knows.

Holtby’s already signed for the next three.

Also, FYI, the Flyers signed James vanRiemsdyk today, making it a hell of a day for daily transactions editors.

AWESOME.
Wonder if he’ll actually be back in Juniors next year. Is there precedent for a newly signed player in this organization returning to juniors? I wanna say Eminger was one, but I can’t really remember beyond that…
The keyboard is mightier.
He plays for UNH. But I bet he doesn’t go back there. PHI doesn’t seem too happy with the way he has been developing iirc.
I was referring to Della Rovere. I’m pretty sure Riemer will be a Flyer next year.

Oh my bad. I think he has to play in the NHL or CHL next year. He will be 19 when the season starts so I think that makes him ineligible to play in the AHL until his CHL season is over. I highly doubt that he is ready for NHL action so I’d suspect he stays in the CHL.
Nope – he can go to the AHL next year.

Leo has shared a bed with Gisele and Bar (separately, as far as I know, but still). He can do no wrong.

Btw, if you didn’t read the interview we did w/ Delly at rookie camp, check it out (sorry to link back to the old site, but our archives are acting up… SBN’s support folks are on it, though).

They’re going to love that guy in Hershey. They’ll have someone to make them forget Louis Robitaille. A year or two there, and they he can be the sandpaper this well-varnished bunch needs.
If you've read this far...seek help.
Yes, he can go to Hershey next year, as Alzner did this year.

Alzner was a late ’88, though. Della Rovere is a ’90.
Plus Alzner also had the requisite four CHL seasons under his belt, so that made him eligible regardless of the age requirement.
Holtby, on the other hand, is a late ’89 and he can play in the AHL next season.
Delly can play in the AHL next season, per the Caps Director of Media Relations.
Is that better?

Yeah, I’m not 100% sure they’re right on this one.

Only time there is an age minimum in the AHL is if the player has a CHL contract. Then they have to be at least 20.
Otherwise it’s free game.

Consistently surprised/impressed by the depth of understanding of the rules of player transfers, promotions, etc here.
Nice work.
