Tretiak is flying to America tomorrow to meet with Russian Goalies

Russian Hockey Federation president Vladislav Tretiak is heading to North America tomorrow, where he will talk with Russian goaltenders about their possible participation in the World Championship in Switzerland.

“Unfortunately, there is some pressing business in Russia which doesn’t allow me to stay in America for more than one day, so I’ll only be able to attend the Chicago-San Jose game in Chicago on March 25.” Said Tretiak in a conversation with SE correspondent Vladimir Yurin. “After the game I’ll talk with Evgeni Nabokov and Nikolai Khabibulin, and before the game I’ll try to talk with Ilya Bryzgalov over the phone.”

Did you try to talk to those players before meeting with them in America?

“No. I think a face-to-face meeting will offer a better chance for us to discuss all of our main issues.”

Are you not planning on talking with just one more Russian representative in the NHL, Simeon Varlamov?

“As far as I know, Varlamov is not currently being considered as a candidate to go to the World Championship, since his Washington team has guaranteed itself a spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs. But I do have to admit that the guy has been playing very well this season. “

So could you at least recommend to the Team Russia coaching staff that they take a look at him?

“I will absolutely do that. But as you know, the final choice for selection belongs to the head coach of the national team, Vyacheslav Bykov.”
