"[Mike Green] definitely is not 'fine' as both he and Coach Bruce Boudreau said after the Caps' 5-2 win. If had to speculate, I would guess that he's got an abdominal or oblique strain."

Well that’s funny. I didn’t even read about 52 leaving the ice in TEB’s game story. I mean, must not have been a big deal then, right?
I think I suffered an abdominal strain doing stomach crunches. That doesn’t sound very serious, but who knows with this season’s Caps?

After reading the TEB entry, this sounds like good news. He’s done fine covering this issue. He spoke to the player himself, and duly reported it. Is there a higher standard of journalism that he could have followed on this front? Just curious.
He reported on Green’s injury last night at 11:30PM. True, it didn’t make the recap, but he did report it.
Just because some of us hyperventilate about the team and every little nuance doesn’t mean he’s somehow obligated to meet the unwieldy expectations that accompany this behavior. Just sayin’

And he reported on it post game. And this morning at practice.
We get it, you’re dissatisfied with his work. It certainly doesn’t merit mention here, except as an axe to grind.

No, it does merit it: Capitals fans deserve better coverage from the Washington Post.
I mean, JP nailed it this morning: “The story of the night, however, is still unclear – Alex Ovechkin’s 50th goal was the early headline, then it was his celebration thereof, but Mike Green’s injury with just over three minutes left in the game might end up being the biggest news of all.” If a blogger in his pajamas can pick up The Big Story, surely the Washington Post can?
I’m feeling you. I just think he did what he could while covering two other aspects of the game—I dare say Laing’s injury, once discovered ,was the paramount interest— and submitting his recap for deadline.
There is no way TEB’s coverage can compete with the Rink While this is painfully obvious enough, I’d rather his head not get bashed in at every turn.
Tyler, you’re making me defend the Post which I loathe to do. I hope you appreciate that.
Let me try to explain to you how reporting for a newspaper works. You attend an event (sporting or otherwise), then you talk with people after said event, then you write your article and submit it before a deadline.
Following the event last night, where a player scoring his 50th goal is a pretty big event, said reporter talks to the coach of the Caps and the player himself…both say he is fine, he just got the wind knocked out of him. So reporter submits his article for deadline. Following submission of his article he posts additional information to his blog, since the Caps aren’t a big ticket article (not even page one on the Sports page) there is typically a maximum number of words for the article. Anywho, on said blog TEB’s assistance posts the following at 10:04, or shortly after the game ended:
“Tarik will be back in a bit with notes, quotes and an update on Green, who headed to the locker room early after a hit from Steven Stamkos in the third.”
Then, at 11:30, TEB posts (titled: Update on Green) http://voices.washingtonpost.com/capitalsinsider/2009/03/update_on_green.html
Then, at 10:17 this morning, TEB posts another update…regarding how he now suspects it’s more than having “the wind knocked out” that was previously reported.
My bottom line is why are you so hell bent against the Post? Did you see mention of Green leaving the game elsewhere?

Yoshie: I’ve been a journalist for 15 years. I’ve worked for newspapers and I’ve written for Conde Nast and Time Inc.-family magazines. I’m familiar with how the business works.
TEB isn’t the only media outlet, you know.

If I've learned anything from Green this year...
It’s that he has no idea about the severity of his injuries.
From his shoulder injury:
We’ll see how it feels tomorrow morning. I’m just trying to keep it still right now. Obviously, it’s not too bad, so we’ll see how tonight goes."
And he missed what.. 11 games? And then aggravated it right after? Here’s hoping he’s even back in time for Round 2.

Every story Tarik submits goes through an editor. Who knows iif he had it in there originally, and it got trimed for space? He did mention it on the blog which is fine by me. I read the blog every day, I often forget to read the main stories.

Per Corey:
“Boudreau said they wanted Mike Green to take the day off and then see where he is at tomorrow. He said if it were up to Green, he would play but the team wants to make the best decision for the rest of the season and the playoffs.”
Boy, he REALLY must have got the wind knocked out of him. ;-)
It was on purpose and it was way away from the play. I don’t think he meant to injure Green but he sure did mean to pull him down. Then again, knowing who his coach is maybe he was trying to hurt Green.

That’s how I saw it and, having never heard anything negative about Stamkos in that regards, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.
