Judging by his HockeysFuture profile the Devils basically traded a tougher version of Sami Lepisto. I would have thought Havelid could have fetched more than that. But, yeah, Don Waddell.
If Adam Foote is available, he’s the ideal player for the Caps backline…. if the Avs aren’t looking to move him, then the Caps should look for someone like Ruslan Salei (who the Avs would move…)
Foote has an NMC and doesn’t want to go anywhere. He’s also old, sluggish and has a ton of miles on that body. Derian Hatcher and Jason Smith were exposed pretty regularly by the Caps last year in the playoffs, I see something similar for Foote if he were to get into the playoffs again. He’s a prototypical old-NHL guy. I love his heart and toughness but I just don’t think he moves well enough to make it worth trading for him (even if he was available).
Foote
Anyone else think Adam Foote is a pylon?
Yes
But he’s a tough pylon that could clear a crease every once in a while. O’Donnell would bring that as well. Watching Bouwmeester and McCabe take the Caps apart on the PP while various Panthers buzzed the net was just painful. Yes, you want mobile defensemen for Boudreau’s system, but Foote or O’Donnell… or my girlfriend… could’ve cleared the slot with street clothes on. Still seething…
Havelid is a good pickup for NJ. He’ll block shots and not make any glaring mistakes. He fits their system. Hell, Mike Mottau fits their system. Now, who fits ours?
do the Thrashers actually have defensemen?
they didn’t the other night.
