Interested to see which team takes the ice tonight. Going to dinner with some friends tonight, so I’ll be keeping track via mobile phone on trips to the head…
I don’t particularly care who shows up tonight, as the biggest task in front of the Caps is to be fresh for the playoffs, imo. But it would be nice to see a decent effort. 4, as they say, is most definitely e-nuff.
This isn’t football. You stay strong during the stretch, and it’s endurance that keeps a team going in the playoffs. You don’t take games off just to be fresh in the playoffs. I strongly disagree with that concept.
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
Ah. Well.
Since you have so kindly instructed me on the matter, I will duly admonish the team that it is extremely important that they put forth their best effort. I shall also share your observation that they’re not playing football. Feds will be extremely disappointed; the last time I addressed the team he confided that he loves to scream “touchdown!” every time the puck finds the back of the net.
;)
XD, fair point.
I was more taking a shot at football players being lazy and being able to take games off, than your ideas, which do have pretty good roots, though I disagree with them.

Not to be overly superstitious, but the last time I read that, Florida was 3 for 6 on the PP.
"Good crowd out there tonight, boys, let's really try to win this one."
Is it too early
for a magic-number countdown?
By my math, it’s 13 combined points to clinch the SE…a regulation win tonight brings that down to 9!
Um, yeah, I was going to comment on our luck lack of luck last time the phrase was used, too.
Maybe “Receiving thanks from the Panthers people?”

See you boys....
on the concourse.
BTW, when the hell is SBN gonna let you comment from your mobile? Get with the millenia people!

Leaving in a few minutes to head down to Chinatown
Grab some food and then scream my damn fool head off.
See everyone at the VZ.
I’ll be at the game, the last one of my Spring Break and I’ll also be twittering from my phone. If you see some nut in a Kolzig jersey in 405, say hey!

Wizards & Caps?
Was I dreaming or did I see the Wizards playing at home two hours ago with the game only half over??
That ice should be fine, en?
i think you were dreaming i dont think the Wiz played today but theyre talking on CSN right now about the ice being bad because of the Globetrotters playing at 1.

My wife has pointed the webcam at the tv and is broadcasting for me. I can barely see a thing though.
if you’re in romania, where is your wife located?

They got a cease and desist order from the league, so its pretty unreliable now. Too bad, because I depended on it for a while.

Tuomo and Jarkko are brothers, right?

That’s a mean thing to say about Finns.
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
Nothing against Finns as a whole. Just the ones that eat people. :-D

So all of them? I never said it wasn’t right.
Or are the Cannibals all in Lappland?

Big Oskar doesn’t eat people, that I know of.

He may as well. He’s a gorram machine.

I suppose that would explain the ginormousness of him.

Nice play earlier where Backstrom passed to Ovechkin and immediately drove to the net. The rebound from Ovi’s shot didn’t come his way, but it could have. Backstrom keeps getting better…
Backstrom is impressing me more and more as his career rolls on. He’s getting better than I thought he’d be. I was expecting this in a few years, but already? Damn.

I’m of the opinion Theo’s got to make that save.

Ovi and Semin are bad influences on him

I believe Grapes would use the word “corruption”. :-D

About two minutes back, Ovi took a shot in the back of his leg and went down. And then the camera went away from him and followed the puck back to the Caps’ zone.
Memo to CSN. If Ovechkin goes down, I don’t give a damn what is happening to the puck — please show me video of him getting up. Thank you.
10 of Aucoin’s 22 goals are PPG. I’m interested to see if he gets PP time today.

I think Erskine’s quietly having a fine little game so far.

He’s getting under some skins — that’s for sure.

I think it takes 2 solid years of playing together to get the kind of chemistry Ovechkin, Green, Semin and Backstrom have.
Does’ Ward’s helmet say “WARDO” in goofy gothic script across the jaw? That is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.
Has anyone else thought that AO should spend more time down low on the PP? It’s too easy for defenses to isolate him at the point, I like when they have to collapse on him down lower to make room for more people. Plus, there is nobody better at reacting to loose pucks and making them scoring opportunities, like that goal.
That’s a fun trivia question. I’m pretty sure the answer is a real dork.
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
Well, I forgot that the Hurricanes have the worst facial hair in hockey.
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
If you’re the 5th guy on a 5 on 1, you stay the hell back, so that shit doesn’t happen.
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
It also makes no sense that Semin was the 5th man in. How were BOTH D in on the rush? Plus it was the second guy that scored so even had Semin stayed back someone would have still had to catch Staal.
by 5th guy, I mean 2nd defenseman.
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
Semin recovered reasonably well. Forced the lead guy to change his approach, rush his shot.

Well, there’s your problem.

Sorry, the quote doesn’t look great. On ice for the even strength goal: Ovechkin, Backstrom, Semin, Green, Theodore and Nylander…

Also:
3:25 36 J.JOKINEN 2 Cross checking
Time of goal: 5:57
5:57-3:25 = 2 minutes, 32 seconds. So the power play ended more than 30 seconds before the goal.

Sorry Bears, I could care less about your playoff push while we’re still jockeying for position in the league that matters.
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
But those young Bears in their playoff push can bring some valuable experience when they end up Caps. They’re up 2-0 now.

Yeah, but the PP was looking terrible before that. Too many giveaways. Shouldn’t have ever happened.

Is that goal on Green or Mo? Did Green think Mo had it covered, but Mo was out of position getting a stick from Flash?
the puck is bouncing like crazy out there

I love BB but that was a terrible call not having Semin out for that final rush. Go all 4 young guns there.
And for Eric Fehr to have more than 8+ TOI, he needs to put his ass in front of the net.
That said, the young guns had too much TOI today for sure.
by Gould Old Days on Mar 14, 2009 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions
So what? So was Green, and Ovi/Backs both are -2. Things happen. I’d take Semin’s 1+3+GWG at any time…
There is no joy in shootouts. If we had lost this game we’d call it a tie so I’m not going to gloat about winning the skills exhibition. PP saved us tonight, because it was garbage defense on at least 3 of the four goals.
First goal: Green/Erskine eye-roller.
Second goal: if you have a 5-on-1, what happens when you don’t score. Oh, the other team does. How is it that the two guys back on that play were Semin and Ovechkin? Were we playing five forwards?
Third Goal: Tired PK, plus taking a penalty while a man down. Was there any doubt what was coming?
Fourth Goal: More of SOB line on the ice too long.
Thankfully, Thedore was huge, especially on the OT PK.
As for winning the shootout…whatev. We blew a 2 goal lead at home. Again.
Russian Machine Never Breaks
At least it counts as 2 points in the standings, which is an improvement over the last homestand. :P
Watching the Sharks / Kings game, or at least the end. Trying to decide which is more embarrassing for the team involved: giving up a 2-on-0 shorthanded breakaway, or getting a 2-on-0 shorthanded breakaway and failing to record a shot on goal, let alone score?

Much as I’ll take the 2 points and (more importantly) the SPG win, this would be a much different discussion if the 2nd best PP in the league wasn’t 3 for 4 against the 21st ranked PK unit.
"Good crowd out there tonight, boys, let's really try to win this one."
