Busy day.
Yup. Add to that the fact that the Blues have about nine defensemen on injured reserve, and let the trade rumors fly…
I think the only question here is, ‘Do the Caps wait and see if they can get him on re-entry waivers?’
Assuming Johnson on LTIR, that’s 812,500 off the cap; adding Legace at his current salary would add 1,337,500 to their cap hit, which is a lot. But at half his 2,150,000 salary, Legace would only add 262,500, which would be well worth it.
I’d take Manny in a heartbeat. Yes, please. Beats getting Ellis or some other crapshoot back-up. Former starter > current back-up.
Football's boring. Get over it.
Ellis is a former starter as well, and he has the added benefit of not sucking (at least not as much).
Not that either of them are realistic options.
He’s had two bad games, thus the high GAA in his last two starts. I recall Huet also having two bad starts before getting traded to us. Frankly, Legace would be cheaper, and I like the guy having seen him, I dunno, be in the playoffs before in Detroit. The man also has a bad ass goalie mask.

He had one bad game in his return. Before he missed time, he’d put up three straight games of .900+ save percentages and had topped the .900 mark in five of his previous six outings, six of his last eight, and eight of his last eleven.
And, my word, the defense he’s been playing behind…
He’s a vet, he can be claimed relatively cheaply, and his contract expires at year’s end. He also has playoff experience. Unless 60 gets hurt, he gives us what we need.
If The Odor doesn’t get hurt then the rookies give us what we need: One start every 8-10 games. We have almost a month to see what BJ’s recovery time looks like so there is no need to rush and pick up another veteran goalie (who is having a terrible season). Back up goalie is so far below a reliable defenseman on our “Needs” list that it barely even deserves discussion at this point.
Not much choice, here, we’ve got 50 contracts thanks to the Helmer signing and now the Kronvall claim. I have to wonder if GMGM would have claimed Legace rather than Kronvall if he’d known he’d have the choice (although maybe he did, maybe it was known further ahead of time) but now we don’t have any chance to barring another move.
That, and I doubt the Blues bother with re-entry. Something tells me they aren’t itching to get rid of him so much that they’d deal with the salary, but maybe it’s just me.

I’m not sure I follow your logic. The Blues are clearly willing to get rid of Legace for nothing, or else they wouldn’t have put him on waivers. If they keep him in the AHL they’re still paying him and thus still “dealing with salary”. If they put him on re-entry and he’s claimed, they only have to pay half as much. Thus, placing him on re-entry waivers can only save the Blues money.
All this is moot....
Tarik’s reporting that GMGM says the team is going with Neuvirth and Varlamov down the stretch.

Yeah that’s what he says not so if nothing comes together he hasn’t damaged anyone’s confidence.
If he makes a trade or waiver claim he says, “Well we weren’t planning to do anything but this option arose and we felt it was the best course for the club at this time”.
McPhee handles the media/PR part of his job very well, IMO.
which means nada…GMGM loves double talk and half truths.
I wish we had more leverage to deal this spring…I dislike NMC’s intensely
Couldn't agree more
NMC’s are ridiculous, especially for players over 30. I understand that the uncertainty of life must suck, especially once you start having kids and so forth, but suck it up. That’s why they get paid millions to play a game that most of us would gladly pay to play.
Grr
What I meant to say is that they get compensated for their uncertainty by getting paid ridiculous sums. Most of them actually get paid those sums for having obscene levels of talent. Others, such as Ryan Malone, get paid ridiculous sums because they have pictures of Len Barrie doing unspeakable things to a goat.
Yeah, but a no movement clause is another form of compensation, like a perk. Someone crying that all contracts should have NMCs would be one thing but if you ask for it and a team obliges because it’s something they’re willing to do as part of the compensation package for the player’s service, why wouldn’t you take it?
