Cripes, what now?

"Good crowd out there tonight, boys, let's really try to win this one."

The bottom of the press release says Johnson is day-to-day with a lower body injury.

testing out the Hershey #2 in the NHL / showing him off to the league?

Just saw this on my twitter….Johnny is day to day, so they brought up Neuvirth.

No way he plays tonight anyway…Varlamov is still hurt?

Sounds like.

Kind of explains Sunday, I guess.

May be that hip again. Anyway, here’s hoping – I’m interested to see what Neuvirth can do after some time in Hershey and South Carolina, and hoping I don’t have to.

and Varlamov is still hurt with a groin injury.

Anybody else a little concerned that Varlamov has had continuing groin/leg issues this season? For a goalie that relies on his quickness, it’s troubling.

by b.orr4 on Feb 3, 2009 10:59 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

definitely troubling. all the more reason to see how Neuvirth can hold his own in the NHL.

He’s young. It’s a first-time thing, I bleev. I think it mostly points to his need to improve his conditioning. (About which much has been discussed…)

Yes

Some people never fully recover from groin issues.

by Scott in Shaw on Feb 3, 2009 11:21 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Not yet. I recall much discussion in camp and into the season that Varly was struggling with the groin pulls because of an adjustment to the angles of an AHL/NHL ice sheet. But if it persists into next season, I would be very concerned.

Good for him. His salary for the day just went from $850 at Hershey to $10,000 with the Caps. Not bad money in a recession.

by b.orr4 on Feb 3, 2009 10:56 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Varly last played on Jan. 14, when he played one period before being relieved by Cheese. Gave up four goals on 15 shots.

Johnny’s nicked and so is Varlamov. Even if Varlamov wasn’t hurt, this is the right call up. If Varlamov isn’t hurt, I want him playing in Hershey as opposed to sitting on the bench in DC.

That and Macheseny and Varlamov have been up so far, Neuvirth hasn’t, and this way Bruce can get a look at him…

I realize he probably won’t get a start (and I’m not advocating that he does either), but I wouldn’t mind seeing him come in to face a few shots in a game that has been otherwise put away, should the situation arise…hopefully in our favor.

Any idea on what number Neuvirth wore?

Wow…Caps must have set a record with number of goalies to dress for a game in a single season with numbers ending in a zero. 30,40,60,80!!!!
