"You can tell they like each other. They like being at the rink. You can tell hockey is fun. Sometimes it's almost like a puck on a pond. The Capitals have that attitude. They have fun. They're kicking soccer balls after practice, 20 guys. A guy scores and five guys hug each other. They're happy for the guy who scored. When you win, that happens. That's the stuff you've got to create."

BB deserves the lion's share of the credit
As much as the playing styles are different, the team atmosphere may be the biggest difference between the Hanlon and BB eras.
If it ain't broke, don't break it.
agreed, but..
..i’ll side with ovechkin over BB as the single most important ingredient. a superstar that works hard, loves the game, and has earned a spot as “one of the guys” is such a rare commoditiy. and it could be argued that ovechkin didn’t graduate from rookie/star-in-the-making into full-fledged superstar/MVP-candidate/leader-in-the-room until last year.
it also helps (i assume) that there are so many ruskies. and that so many of the players came up together with BB in hershey.
