Wild general manager Doug Risebrough has expressed a willingness to deal from his team’s strength, defense, to shore up its weakness, offense
Who might the Caps be scouting? Admittedly I’m a little bit lost when it comes to rosters in the West (with the exception of the Canucks…as a ginger I have to root for them)….but I can’t believe GMGM isn’t thinking of trading any offensive blue chips now that the system is finally stocked….unless you get a top tier dman in return
.
As for the Caps roster, I’d love to see Nylander get dumped off on someone else, but I don’t think GMGM could get anything in return even if he could manage Nyls to waive the NMC. And who else in the top-6 would he consider moving…assuming we’re not talking prospects…
Flash? Too much bang for what he’s costing in terms of salary cap
Fehr? Finally living up to his potential, and again salary cap
A Russian? I think that’d be counter productive with OV, though I could see a significant return for Semin…and I could be convinced that’s worthwhile longterm. Kozlov…I think that GMGM has to see what he brings to line up, even when he’s not putting up big numbers.
Other than that I don’t think there’s anyone there that will bring much back.
Anyone have any guesses?
The advance scouting is a good point. Boston with 4 scouts there is definitely siginificant.
I think McPhee, if he makes a big move, will be packaging a forward/prospect with Mo for an upgrade on the blueline. It’s pretty clear that the biggest opportunity for improvement is there. I can’t imagine him trading Semin given how the season has gone, but he’s probably the most valuable chip. I would frankly give up a middling prospect or pick just to be rid of Nylander’s contract, if that is even possible.
Jumping the gun, JP?
The Caps have a game next Friday against Colorado, most likely they were just getting an advanced look at an upcoming out of conference opponent.
How am I jumping the gun by posting a quote?
And to answer Yoshitree, I’d guess that if the Caps were looking at anyone in that game, it’d be one of the Avs blueliners, not one of Minny’s.

Doesn’t seem likely that there is a gaggle of scouts at the same game and we are there just to scout an opponent. Jordon Leopold has an expiring contract and is (allegedly) a puck mover but he hasn’t fulfilled anything close to his potential in COL. MIN has a bunch of D but I don’t think a trade works out with them. They want offense back and I don’t think we should trade any of our secondary scoring for any of the D they will be willing to move. Would you give up Flash or Fehr for Martin Skoula? I would take Bergeron if the price is right but I don’t think he fills any particular need for us. MIN is NOT going to give up Burns, and he’s the only one on that team I want. I would give up Semin for Burns. Burns and Green on the same blue line? Scary.
I can’t imagine at this point that GMGM would be willing to give anything substantial up for a keeper. Jose’s play over the last 2 months has pretty much cemented himself as the #1. If I were a wagering man, I’d say that if Neurvith (sp?) has a C to C+ game this weekend, he’ll stay up as the back-up for the time being…with Varls and Cheese getting the work on the farm.
Is everyone comfortable with that going into April? I’m not knocking Theo, he’s been just awesome lately, but I am slightly nervous about having to make a deep playoff run with a first string and 3rd string goalie but no 2nd string.
I just spell his how its pronounced… Mike.
