Stat(s) Of The Day
"Nineteen of Alex Ovechkin's league-leading 33 goals have come in the third period or overtime. You could count only the goals he has scored after the second intermission and Ovechkin would still be tied for 27th in goals in the league, just three goals out of the top 10. Ovechkin's 17 third-period goals are six more (or 55% more) than any other player in the league. Ovechkin has scored 28.8% of Washington's third-period goals." - Caps Today
I'd also add that Ovechkin has more goals in the last five minutes of games (15) than all but 61 players in the NHL have overall.

3rd Period Goals
How many of those third period goals are empty net?
As cool as this stat is, it mostly leaves me wondering why Alex is such a slow starter…
Swing by The Flyer Frequent if you have nothing better to do.
