Did you see the picture of Ryan Malone jumping on top of him while he was in the butterfly? That would hurt my groins if it were me…
Q: Your rival, Sidney Crosby: dislike him?
Ovechkin: "I love him."
Q: You send him cards on his birthday?
Ovechkin: "I send him cards every day."

It would be nice to see Neuvirth get a do-over (he deserved better than that Montreal game).
"After the Cold War, the AK-47 became Russia's biggest export. After that came vodka, caviar, and suicidal novelists (and a couple good hockey players)."
That’s about right. If that’s the case, Theodore’s next likely start on VC ice would be almost 6 weeks since his last (11/11).
Does reading game logs for players mean I’m bored?

Won 4 of his last 5 road starts, yeah.

To expand, he’s 5-1-1/2.16/.937 on the road so far (if I did the math right).

He also got “run” and knocked down, I can’t remember by whom. He curled up as he slid, but the collision was fairly solid. Can anyone else remember the moment?
Also Malone. He got a penalty on the play.

Hopefully this is just a precautionary measure for a minor “discomfort” of some kind and not something more serious.
You can't "FЯEE ALEX" because it's impossible to contain him in the first place.
by PaintDrinkingPete on Dec 9, 2009 10:41 AM EST reply actions
No
I don’t think it’s his style I think it will be the fact that he will take shots from players like Avery and people like that. Also remember the fact that last year when Varly was in the AHL he had a injury to one of his knees that put him on the shelf for a while right

Would he have played tonight’s game? I’m hoping this is just more of a cautionary thing.
"And next year it will be ours."
He did shut Buffalo out last time, my money was originally on Varly starting tonight and Theo taking Carolina.
by BradleyFightingVehicle on Dec 9, 2009 11:11 AM EST up reply actions
Perhaps, but Theo’s last 2 outings have been just as solid as Varlamov’s, despite the lack of SO’s for Theo, he was facing more shots etc.
Very true, I was only speculating this way because I feel like if a goalie shuts a team out one night he gets in their head a little, so you should send the same goalie out the next time you face that team. Now we can’t do that, but I’m confident Theo will step up, and this injury doesn’t sound too serious which is good.
If Varly can’t go Saturday I bet/am hoping Neuvirth gets a start.
by BradleyFightingVehicle on Dec 9, 2009 11:25 AM EST up reply actions
Given that Boudreau “hopes Varly will skate on Friday and play Saturday,” i’m guessing it’s not much more than soreness.

I spent months pushing in that doo claw!!!!
But Brawndo's got what plants crave. It's got electrolytes.
Hope this doesn’t hurt his chances of being named to the Olympic team any. Would suck for him.
Unleash the Alex!
To be fair, I’m with F&B here, where, like Green, I’d rather him play out the season angry to show up his detractors.

And to have him fresher for the playoffs. Part of me feels that way, and the other part wants these guys to get their chance.

Corey has posted a few updates saying that Theo was down for a few minutes during practice. Things seem to be ok now.
And this beat writer is the one who’ll be out of a job soon.

But don’t they have the contract with the Post? They might be hesitant to hire someone from the Times even if he’s not at the Times anymore.
But for Corey’s sake, I so hope you’re right. I enjoy following him on Twitter.
I enjoy following him on Twitter.
Heck, is there a more informative or more substantive or more timely Caps’ Twiiter place that Corey’s? If so, lemme know.
I’m sure they would relish the opportunity to hire someone from the Times’ ashes rather than avoid it.

Can’t imagine the Post blackballing someone after they’ve already Won the DC sports world to themselves.

Since the injury happened in the third period, I’m pretty sure this is Gould Old Days’ fault.
by sixsevenfiftysix on Dec 9, 2009 12:45 PM EST reply actions
hahahaha, little did he know saying “shutout” could jinx a goalie in more than one way
"No Brooks Laich, no win. Know Brooks Laich, know win."
If by him counteracting the shutout curse by saying it all those times, then do we need to start a new traditon of saying injuries multiple times so they won’t happen? Like in the third period if we just start talking about groins and “upper body injuries” then they won’t happen, right?
This is exactly what I’ll do next game.
“2 minutes left, and no injuries to anyone…”

Nylander has been placed on waivers again.

Good avatar, good username, good sentiment, but this belongs in the open thread.

Corey and Tarik are also reporting that MP is feeling ill and might not play.
(Yes, I know about the avatar hounding - just pretend mine is invisible.)
MP's family tells us he's too sick to play today

Not me. St. Louis would wreck MP right now.
You're the reason that I hate Nova Scotia.

That fight wouldn’t even be close. It would be like a Bradley Special.

Hobbits and Munchkins and Briere, on my!
This thread has it all.
Those lollipop guild dudes gave me the creeps. They still do. In fact, I think one of them beat the shit out of for my milk money at recess.
I’d much rather see MP kick Briere’s ass then St Louis

I’m all for that. Although MP needs to watch out for Briere. He wields his stick like a hobbit with a sword.
by terpgrrl on Dec 9, 2009 2:28 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
St. Louis would actually fight. Briere would just spear him and flee.
by BradleyFightingVehicle on Dec 9, 2009 2:29 PM EST up reply actions
No, Briere would just give an elbow to the head. I guess he gave up spearing.

Except he recently got suspended for spearing.

I believe gfcaps was referring to an elbow to the head Briere threw last night, fresh back from his spearing suspension. Hence, he’s on to elbos now.

I know what he was referring to. I was refuting that his spearing days are over. He got a spearing penalty against Vancouver less than a week ago.

Well, that would be why he would give up spearing, right?
And it’s she. You need to learn the personalities here. (/snark)
