Goalie Thread

Figure it out guys. Please, try to be honest with your skill level; it will be much more fun if we have evenly matched goalies and you make us earn our goals. I guess the preference should be for guys that don't skate out so that more people can be involved, but Zephyr has dibs on one net because of seniority and the Rink Rat Ticket Exchange. He can give it up if he's willing.

If there’s an open spot, I certainly wouldn’t mind taking a shot or two…I play most of the time at the low B or high C level so I’m not sure how that stacks up with the skill levels of others.

Which league? I know Kettler leagues are supposedly better than Fairfax. We should probably try to normalize as much as possible.

You're the reason that I hate Nova Scotia.

HNA primarily, though I’ve subbed for teams on occasion at Piney and Laurel.

I guess first we should see how many people can make it NO MATTER WHAT. Goalies are pretty dependable but this will be hard to organize and be fair to everyone if we have a bunch of “maybes.”

Then we should see how many people care about sharing a net or not.

As long as everyone can skate and are actually goalies I don’t think we should care about levels too much.

I’m probably B level ice at this point since I’ve been playing primarily inline for the past 8 years but I also stayed at a holiday inn express last night, so who knows?

Good call…I know I can definitely make it, and I don’t mind sharing a net at least to some degree…obviously 2 goalies is best, but 3 still works well since you can rotate for breathers yet still be on the ice far longer than you’re off it. More than that and everyone starts to get cold IMO.

Yeah, I saw in the other post that we have 90 minutes and not 60 like I originally thought. Three wouldn’t be so bad with that much time.

Boom, two goalies.

That was easy!!!

If not the appropriate place to ask, I understand, but when (date/time) are you guys doing this? I would like to see what you more hockey knowledgeable Rink Rats are really made of, maybe snap a few pictures.

Just since it isn’t in here for anyone that does know it’s on Jan 2nd 2010 at around 8pm. (F&B is waiting on confirmation for when the slot starts.)

I may be able to make it, but I am not sure yet. I’d say I’m probably a B level goalie, but if there are already 2 or 3 goalies who can definitely make it I can skate out if I am able to play.

Of all our iniquities ignorance may be the worst

I think we’re going to cut this off after this first 24 hours and just go with me and Kerry Fraser’s Hairspray then.

Killer_Carlson since you’re not sure why don’t you mail F&B and sign-up as a player.

For the next one I’ll play player if we have more goalies respond because I think it is best with just two (esp. since this is looking like they are setting up a real game instead of a pickup. No one wants to be the traitor goalie.)

Sounds good…I’ll email F&B and make sure to get him his necessary protection money bribe ice fees.

We should get somebody to be a ref.

If only so we can have faceoffs.

Maybe one of the spare goalies could do this?

I will dominate in faceoffs! And I don’t think we have a spare goalie.

by Fehr and Balanced on Dec 9, 2009 3:59 PM EST up reply actions

You'd beat me for sure

because I haven’t played center since I was 11. I think it’s just better to have faceoffs because it helps promote line changing and keeps people playing their positions.

i agree to the faceoff’s keeping lines changing and people playing their positions. Patterson park does this for their pick up’s. They just have a wing drop the puck. I say no refs.. cause i will want to take cheap shots on F and B too. hahaha jk
