Backstrom posted his second two-goal game of the season and added an assist in a 3-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes Nov. 30, notched one goal in a 6-2 victory over the Florida Panthers Dec. 3 and closed the week with five points (one goal, four assists), the most by a Capitals player this season, in an 8-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers Dec. 5. Backstrom leads the Capitals in scoring and ranks 10th in the NHL overall with 33 points (eight goals, 25 assists). The 22-year-old Gavle, Sweden native has averaged nearly a point per game in his NHL career, recording 44-146--190 in 193 games."

They spelled his name wrong. The name is Lars. L-A-R-S. Rhymes with star.
Congrats, Mean Lars!

I think Backstrom is going to be on the phone on NHL Live! today, just a heads up. They were ripping on Carcillo earlier too, so good.

Agreed. He got all of his assists in the Philly game by passing to Ovechkin, IIRC. Also, soft Euro.

E. Staal is so much better.

And Eric Staal is still inferior.

But
Much to my dismay there is a fucking poster of E. Staal in the Kettler pro shop. Unconscionable.
You're the reason that I hate Nova Scotia.

"You're gonna eat that g**d**n Koho, three!"
in reference to that brother
Jordan Staal is a nice player. Really nice. But he’s not a point a game player and he’s nowhere near the #1, right now, that Nick really is. Yes, JStaal has two great ones in front of him in PIT, which still has the best C depth in the game, but George got this one spot on. Now pay the man.

GMGM doesn’t get credit for taking Backstrom instead of Staal since Staal wasn’t available when he drafted. He does, however, get credit for taking Baxter instead of Kessel.

That’s true. If you visit our PA friends’ sites, you’ll doubtlessly find the notion that JS is the superior player, in much the same way Canes fans prop up the brother, regarding Nick. As for Kessel, he’s no playmaker (just 48 A in his first 149 games), and would have been an unwise pairing with Ovechkin. George seems the type to avoid the divas anyway.

Dude, there’s no way the Pens fans, except the ones that don’t actually follow hockey, think that Jordan Staal is a better player than Nick Backstrom. No way, no how, no chance.

Still find myself surprised every time I read that he’s only 22. Let’s sign him to a 20-year deal where the last five are for the league minimum!
