Switching to Blues/Kings. Switching to this thread.

Anyone have recommendation between the Blues or Kings announcers? My inclination is LA…

I’d say LA. I like their guys. The entire Pacific division is pretty good, IMO. ANA is probably the worst and even they aren’t horribly terrible. SJS has gotten a little more homerish in recent years but I still think they are pretty good.

I like the Kings announcers a lot, so I’m going with them (although Center Ice is only giving me one choice for some reason). But the Blues team got way better this year with the addition of Darren Pang.

by Killer_Carlson on Dec 5, 2009 5:42 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I don’t think the Blues are bad at all. I just think the Kings are good. Blues should just bring JD down from the executive suites to do the color commentary.

by Fehr and Balanced on Dec 5, 2009 5:44 PM EST up reply actions

See any defensemen in this game it would make sense for the Caps to trade for? Blues are probably sellers…

by Gould Old Days on Dec 5, 2009 5:12 PM EST reply actions

I haven’t checked Alan Ryder’s take on these guys and I don’t follow STL all that closely but I think Brewer would be great, though expensive. Notwithstanding that he’s been over-hyped and is probably overpaid, he’s still a huge upgrade in our top 4. For the money, I think Colaiacovo is an upgrade over our comparably priced D.

If LAK falls out of it I’d love Sean O’Donnell.

by Fehr and Balanced on Dec 5, 2009 5:22 PM EST up reply actions

Colaiacovo is super injury prone, or so I understand. Great talent but can’t count on him being in the lineup night in and night out. We already have a Dman like that and ours is better.

by Knee high to a duck on Dec 5, 2009 5:30 PM EST up reply actions

Which guy are you referring to? I guess I have heard a bunch about Coly being hurt a lot. He just seems like good value for that contract.

Listen to Ol' Hank Murphy and eat your damn onions.

by Fehr and Balanced on Dec 5, 2009 5:32 PM EST up reply actions

Our guy is Green. I guess saying Mike’s fragile is a bit premature, but Coly is 26 and his season high for games was 63 last year. The other years he’s been up have seen some pretty nice production on a per game basis, but he never went higher than 48 games prior to that with the Leafs.

He’s also been on the shelf for a good chunk of time this season and the commentary I heard when he came back lead me to think “fragile” not “AHL-Prone”. Dude’s got some serious talent.

by Knee high to a duck on Dec 5, 2009 5:47 PM EST up reply actions

I never really thought of Coly as a wingar. He has some offensive upside but I thought he was a more defensive guy.

by Fehr and Balanced on Dec 5, 2009 6:02 PM EST up reply actions

Also, you see more of him than I do; is Scuderi worth the money out there or did he cash in on one great playoffs?

Only YOU can prevent idiots from commenting!

by Knee high to a duck on Dec 5, 2009 5:32 PM EST up reply actions

He’s no slouch, and he’s from Long Island, but he definitely got a nice bump for that playoff performance. I will say that he’s playing pretty well so far this year so it’s not like a Fernando Pisani situation. He’s probably a little overpaid, but then again you could say that about almost every D signed in the last couple years, so he’s probably within his market value range.

Listen to Ol' Hank Murphy and eat your damn onions.

by Fehr and Balanced on Dec 5, 2009 5:34 PM EST up reply actions

$3.4 mil isn’t bad for Scuderi, but for an extra 100K you can get Jeff Finger!

(When you put it like that Scuderi is way underpaid).

Weaver is 5’9"/182 and must be some kind of stick crafty mofo or is just having a great year. 800K and UFA in July…Polak is 23, 6’1"/227 and a right shot and 1.1M for another year before RFA, so not bloody likely.

Yes you do. What an awesome game, didn’t deserve a shootout. Frolov tied it with about :30 to go after Kariya gave STL a lead with a late PPG. Lots of end to end action, exciting hockey.

Anyone watch NHL on the Fly?

Did you catch the hysterical 1980s feed they used for the PHX/OTT game. WTF is that? How is the NHL seriously stuck using that feed for the premier highlights show for the league? Ridiculous.

Listen to Ol' Hank Murphy and eat your damn onions.

by Fehr and Balanced on Dec 6, 2009 12:57 AM EST reply actions

The audio seemed to be the radio play-by-play, too. I think the online Hershey highlights are 10x better than that.

Was that game televised? The video almost looked liked an in-house arena feed.

by terpgrrl on Dec 6, 2009 9:21 AM EST up reply actions

That was the feed they had on Center Ice.

I could have been equipment manager, but nooooo!

by boutros23 on Dec 6, 2009 9:45 AM EST up reply actions

Was it throwback night? lol

It reminded me of a baseball game I was watching awhile back where the teams all wore retro jerseys, so the broadcast had TV graphics from the same era.

by terpgrrl on Dec 6, 2009 10:30 AM EST up reply actions

Did anyone see Callahan’s goal in the Rangers-Sabres game? It really looks like it hit the crossbar and never went in. Both announcers weren’t sure if it went in, and they never even reviewed it, play just started up again. I thought they reviewed every goal in Toronto, I can’t believe they let this one slide without even a second look.

Anyone see the ground and pound followed by an elbow from Malkin in the Pen-Hawks game? Surprised that is not being talked about at all. Wait . . . no I’m not.

by Gin and Tonic on Dec 6, 2009 2:17 AM EST reply actions

Saw it and I’m not shocked because Malkin doesn’t have the same narrative. I bet if you count all of Malkin’s dirty/questionable hits in his career it’s at least as many as AO has; and the Malkin slew foot on the Rags (Mara?) in the playoffs is by far the most egregious single incident in either player’s repertoire.

Listen to Ol' Hank Murphy and eat your damn onions.

by Fehr and Balanced on Dec 6, 2009 2:28 AM EST up reply actions

And the reason that he doesn’t is b/c no captains on rival teams have ever pushed such a narrative in the media. No Canadian broadcasters or news types either.

Slew foot was on Mara. He has a couple cheap elbows too.

Imagine if Ovechkin did that. Just goes to show you.

by Gin and Tonic on Dec 6, 2009 2:55 AM EST up reply actions

Just an FYI…

I don’t have Center Ice at home because Comcast doesn’t provide it in HD, but I do have the Sports Pack and HD subscription. If you have both, there is a new HD channel at the end of all the sports subscription channels. (I’m in Baltimore County and mine is 786) They will broadcast one or two HD games a night (I got 3 yesterday) and you don’t need CI to watch them.
