Annapolis, Md.: I understand the need to make the trade, what with the extra defensemen on the roster, but why didn't we trade Schultz?

Lindsay Applebaum: You know Columbus has to agree to the deal, too, right? Heh.

I thought Lindsay was a bit smarter than that but I guess she thinks Juice was awesome and there is no way Columbus would have agreed to Schultz instead of Jurcina.

I’m comfortable with Schultzie flying under the radar. He gets much admiration from me.

I could have been equipment manager, but nooooo!

I’m really not quite sure how to read that, in light of other comments made during the chat.

Fun fact: A popular opinion can still be stupid.

Yeah, he smacked her. It’s one thing for a dipshit blogger to make a crack like the one she made, but a supposed professional? Really?

L. Applebottom is a professional reader of other blogs and then forming an opinion based on what she reads. Let’s not act like they are employing hard core sports fans at WaPo.

Hah, awesome. I was just reading the chat and had a WTF moment so I wanted to bring this to light.

Well, this really adds insult to injury for (potentially) losing Corey (who will hopefully continue covering the Caps, somehow).

Yikes, too bad Ms. Applebaum isn’t the GM, I’d give up the Pens equivalent of Chimera (Mike Rupp maybe?) for Jeff Schultz any day of the week.

Huh. I thought she was just humoring the questioner. A lot of the Post chatters seem to do that rather than bother trying to change a person’s mind. Wilbon’s the only one trying to turn everything into PTI-esque arguments.

I disagree since she corrected people in other questions.

Also, even if she was humoring them it was done in the wrong way and in an unprofessional manner.

I’m guessing it’ll get a more professional response/resolution if these keep popping up in their comments.

Lindsay,

Your unprofessional snipe at Jeff Schultz in yesterday’s chat betrayed your ignorance. Schultz is one of the better young shut-down defensemen in the league – a fact borne out by the stats. Columbus would have had to have given up a heck of a lot more than Chimera to get Schultz from the Caps. You should educate yourself at places like behindthenet and japersrink before you make yourself look foolish again.

dumb

She’s entitled to her opinion as much as you are to yours. Her feelings on the player, if that’s what she was expressing, are not ignorance.

by 202-206 on Jan 4, 2010 1:56 PM EST up reply actions

Well, it can be read that she’s just saying that you can’t just send anyone you want to other team; they have to agree to taking that player as well. If they don’t think he’ll fit the mold for what they want, they won’t agree. OR it could be read as a snipe. I’m a glass half full girl myself, so I guess I’ll go with the latter.

Does she actually cover hockey or is she the just person that covers for Tarik sometimes?

by letsgocaps on Dec 30, 2009 9:46 AM EST reply actions

Lindsay is the NHL editor. She assigns stories and coverage. So she manages Tarik and the couple of guys the Post let’s her use as fill-ins. During the playoffs, she’s the one juggling Tarik, Svrluga, Wise, Boswell, and Steinberg, plus whoever the she can drag to the VC, and trying to coordinate all the coverage and assigning various stories and making sure it all gets done in time to go into the paper. She’s also the one who determines which, if any, AP stories on out-of-town games make the paper (and I presume online).

I don’t agree with what she said about Schultz, but being an editor is a pretty thankless job. It’s largely behind the scenes, involves handholding and massaging of egos, and everyone thinks they can do a better job than you.

Fun fact: A popular opinion can still be stupid.

I don’t doubt she’s got a hectic schedule. Whether by osmosis, acquired knowledge, or inherent wisdom, however, she really doesn’t have an excuse to suffer from Schultz Derangement Syndrome the way that casual fans do.

no. and i don’t understand your point.

by Natty Bumppo on Jan 4, 2010 8:49 PM EST up reply actions

Hmmm...

Schultz: 1-8-9, +15, $715K

Juice (with the Caps): 0-4-4, +0, $1.375M

Who would you rather have?

Let's go Caps!

by MikeL-Pivonka on Dec 30, 2009 2:36 PM EST reply actions

Clearly Shultz, but i’ve always been a fan of his.

Also Shultz is only 23-24 and still an RFA for 3 more years compared to Jurcina’s UFA no future potential status.
