OT Hockey: 5 Questions

  1. Will there be blood in Alberta?
  2. Will ATL help the Caps stave of NJD?
  3. Can the Caps prospects continue their strong WJHC play?
  4. Will CI give me an English feed for OTT/MON?
  5. Will Team Canada score more than the 'Skins?

Tough break for SUI. Hit the pipe at one end then CAN goes down and scores to make it 2-0. Ah well, not like it was going to be a close game anyhow.

I just want to know why Kugryshev was left off the final Team Russia roster. He’s back in Quebec, with 2 goals yesterday for the Remparts in a 10-1 pasting of whoever they were playing. Chesnokov said he was gonna write about it but hasn’t.

I don’t know, but that is sad to see. I wonder if it’s a little bit of what Carlson got last year. Damn you for leaving the local leagues, boy.

He wasn’t the only one. I believe several others guys got cut as well. I too wonder what happened.

The two I feel like answering right now. Perhaps more answers to come.

1. There always is! When I have nothing to do, I watch hockey. And since that usually happens late at night, I end up watching tons of Western Conference games, including the Battle of Alberta. The Flames pull it off most nights, but usually in the most frustrating fashion possible for Edmonton.
4. I stream most of my games online on sites like atdhe.net, which means it’s a crapshoot as far as what feed of the games I can find. But there’s a certain charm to watching crazed commentators ranting in French…

Jimmy Howard is playing balls out for the wings tonight.

Yeah I’m waiting for him to fade. It’s about time for Howard, I was starting to think he’d never make the jump.

Ha. LAK fights to tie the game with just over two minutes left and then Quick gives it right back and MIN wins anyway.

Going to the NYI/CBJ game with SME and K_C. Look for the sexy guys in Caps sweatshirts.

We all gave him a big standing ovation when he skated to take a face off right by us (six rows back from the glass by the offensive zone face off dot) but he didn’t acknowledge us. We did confuse our entire section though.

Who else is watching CBJ tonight? So weird to see Juice and Clarkie in the Jackets white unis…

Damn, had a major technical breakdown. Was all prepped for the pre-game thinking there would be some blurb or good shots of Clark and Jurcina in their new duds warming up. Was going to capture to computer, post up on YoutTube, then create a FanShot here on the Rink. Found the CBJ broadcast on NHL CI (standard def, ugh, but better than nothing), and there were two nice short interview segments with each guy. But I flailed on the capture. Should have just DVR-ed it then dealt with the capture later. Oh well, live and learn. No more “care bare” like cute attempts at shortcuts.

How did they look and what did they say?

I couldn’t watch the whole game but Juice was out at the end of OT.
Good for him, sad for Clarkie.

Juice had a really good game and Clark got a lot more ice than he used to get here (or it seemed so).

Ah, more fail – I have no effing clue what they said – the audio was being drowned out by four boisterous kids hopped up on sugar and bouncing off the walls. I thought both looked handsome in their dark blue sweaters.

they were in white @NYI.

true, yes, but these were interviews done well before the game in a set room, they were not in full uniform (no pads/helmet/etc), but sitting down and wearing their dark sweaters

I flipped over from the Pengins pre-game for a second, and yes it always does seem odd at very first.

Clarkie got 13:49 TOI.

Clark didn’t get any shifts in OT, but that’s to be expected. He did seem to get pretty regular ES shifts but I don’t think he was on the PP or PK, also to be expected on a new team.

Also from the NYI game, a couple right in front of us left the game right before OT, and more than a small handful of people bailed before the shootout. Gotta beat that traffic, right? I’m starting to rethink whether the Isles really need to still be there.

Evgeny Kuznetsov hams it up as he joins the Russia men's national team for the "Sweden Games" leg of the Euro Hockey Tour in Helsinki, Finland.

There's a bit of controversy as their game against the Finns is scheduled to be played in Helsinki's outdoor Olympic Stadium. Where the daytime temps are currently approximately minus-15 degrees Celsius, with periodic heavy snow.

This interview with head coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov is fascinating, as he frets about the weather and especially when the reporters press him on the leaked reports that Kuznetsov will be centering the top line for Team Russia, just weeks after his 20th birthday.
