Why am I not surprised at that news?
It seems like when a Hershey callup has a subpar game, he gets his ice time reduced and is then sent back down.

Prospects are definitely held on a very short leash.

Andrew Gordon certainly got a short one. First day he was called up, he had no energy since he had so much trouble getting up to Canada.

With Laing back, they’ve got 12 healthy Fs, plus Sloan, plus Gordon soon. I think it’s a legit return. Further, if it was just on paper, it’d have likely been a team press release announcing it, and not a writer in Hershey. But I could be wrong.

They already have Boyd Gordon down there for conditioning but Hershey has a light schedule this week. Perreault is already down. And now back comes Wilson.

Hershey’s light schedule might be why it could be a reassignment on paper only. Wilson gets assigned to Hershey now, Caps only pay his minor league salary for two days, he practices here, and gets “recalled” in time for Wed’s game when in fact he never left.
I thought this was allowable, but I could be wrong.
Could be. I know that there’s a freeze on roster moves that takes place around the holidays but I forget what day that freeze kicks in.

Per the CBA, the holiday roster freeze begins at midnight on December 19 and continues through midnight of December 27. Read section 13.15 for more info.

No time to look at it. What happens if a team has games scheduled for the 23rd and 26th, and someone gets hurt on the 23rd. Emergency call-ups are still permitted, right?

It looks like players can be recalled to the parent club just like normal circumstances. I assume this includes emergency recalls as well. Also, players can be demoted to meet roster limits if another player comes off LTIR. This may apply to Boyd Gordon’s scenario, I’m not sure. This link briefly explains the roster freeze.

I’d presume it would, since Boyd would be going down there for conditioning purposes.

Yeah. Capgeek still has him listed as being on the LTIR. If he comes off before the 27th then he can be sent down for conditioning under that exception. Apparently he’s already down there according to another comment.

I get it now. And aslong as players don’t have to go through waivers, they can pass up and down. Caps could recall Perreault, Carlson, Holtby without issue

The wording in the CBA is “waivers, trades, and loans” so waiver exempt players are free to be moved unless I’m mistaken (which is not uncommon when I try to parse the CBA).

I do recall they made a similar move with Varlamov last year around this time.

Brent Johnson was also here (and returning to health I think) last year.

quite possible. I heard 270 is a mess, and the further north you go, the worse it gets. I don’t want to think about what US15 is like.
Fun fact: A popular opinion can still be stupid.
My route to Hershey doesn’t go that way; I take 95 to 695 to 83… but then, I’m in Maryland. :-)

Has it been confirmed that Boyd Gordon won’t rejoin the team in time?
Regardless of Boyd’s status, I read this as “Brooks Laich did good enough at center in the last game that we don’t think we need Kyle.” And for the next week, all the games for both the Caps and the Bears are at home. If they need someone, they know where to find them.

Well, alright.
I’d like to see him next year take a shot at the 4F position. I liked his game, but he clearly needs NHL exp.

That’s a shame. The Caps just got dumber.
