A source told ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun that forwards Kane and Toews will each receive five-year deals for $31.5 million and a $6.3 million average salary. Keith, a defenseman, gets a 13-year, $72 million contract that averages $5.54 million per season.

What does this mean for Backstrom, Semin, and the Caps?

That’s going to be a good team for a long time now. They don’t need that much more talent around the guys they have locked up long term. As long as they draft well and qualify their RFAs they should be able to keep cheap skill coming in.
Opinions of yours I don't care about: Politics, Religion, Ovechkin.
Here’s a 24-man roster for next year: 14 forwards, 8 defensemen and two goalies. I gave Backstrom and Semin 6.3 Million each, B-Mo and Juice each got raises, and Pothier took a pay cut. For anyone who’s still worried about the Caps being able to afford Backstrom and Semin, relax. With Nylander and Theo off the payroll, it should be no problem.

Thanks, GOD, for doing the work I didn’t feel like/didn’t have time for. I was a bit worried since 6.3 per year was a little higher than we had all hoped for, considering we were using these guys as a benchmark, at least for Backstrom.
And, with 2.245 in cushion, it leaves a little wiggle room for contracts. And that includes Alzner and Carlson with the Caps. Just awesome.

I like that lineup, but do you think you might be a little low on what the RFA’s end up with for next year? It’s pretty early in the season to assume you’re going to get all of them for their qualifying offers (if Fehr keeps going, he’s finally going to be due a decent raise, don’t you think?). Good thing the goalies are still on their entry level contracts, but the year after next, there goes the cap space. I also think BMo is earning himself more than a $500k raise.

Fehr’s an RFA — he ain’t going anywhere unless he’s traded.
I believe Fehr’s a year behind Flash, in terms of eligibility. I’m expecting his numbers to be relatively similar to Flash’s from last year, when you account for Flash’s time out with pneumonia. So I bet he gets a salary similar to Flash’s for this year.

Semin at 6.3M is a little unsavory for me, although I appreciate the WAG factor, and that it may be for a much shorter term.
Agreed about BMo getting more than $2M, I’m thinking he’ll get more – although he won’t be 35 until August of next year, thus opening the door for a cap friendly deal? ;-)
