Nylander to Grand Rapids - What They're Saying

Taking a quick swing 'round the hockeysphere to see how the Michael Nylander grand return to Grand Rapids is playing. Please feel free to add additional links and thoughts in the comments:

Grand Rapids Press: Hello, Peoria!

Reax:

Japers' Rink gets its woad on.

Babcock's Death Stare applauds, mostly, though he's concerned about how this might impact ice time and oxygen for Wings' prospects, and looks back to Nyls' first game as a Griff.

Russian Machine Never Breaks gets out the whiteboard to break down the plays - and the playas.

On Frozen Blog will nearly certainly have more, later.

Grand Rapids Snapshots notes:

While some Red Wings fans would like to see the Wings make a play for Nylander, his $4.875 million salary cap hit for this season and next season would make doing so absolutely ravage the Wings when Valtteri Filppula, Niklas Kronwall, Dan Cleary, Jason Williams, and Johan Franzen return, and there's no way that Nylander would have agreed to go to Grand Rapids if the Wings planned on playing him until their injured players return and then demoting him.  Not gonna happen.

On the Wings has a question.

Hendricks Hockey looks at all that lovely new cap room and has a suggestion for a personnel move.

Finding the cloud in the silver lining.

Spector's Hockey speculates.

Ed Frankovic has made GMGM a list.  Which boxes get checked off?

Fine-tuning the guest list for the post-loan party. Or is that the entertainment?

Steve Kindle had the goods, early.

Stunned.

What's the opposite of "A day that will live in infamy?"   This.

Another reason for them to hate Detroit, and another reason for me to keep on lovin’ ’em.

YNC, you’ve earned another one of these! Awesome work!

Fun fact: A popular opinion can still be stupid.

Which is good, because you don’t ever want to get one of these:

Awesome job YNC. I absolutely love the white board stuff. I can see why Grand Rapids fans would be concerned about their prospect ice time, but if their main guy had already fallen to 4th line duty I think it’s safe to say he’s not ready for the minutes Nyls is going to take anyway.

You're the reason that I hate Nova Scotia.

Fighting words from (who knew?) Carlson lobby member Lisa Hillary in this CSN Washington report. And let’s give a big Japers’ Rink welcome to new CSN reporter Allen Popels, who will be covering the Caps and Bears. This was his first article for CSN.

Though CSN should save a roster spot for Corey. >:(

I don’t think Filatov is likely, but if they can hose CBJ I’m not against it. I don’t think CBJ would allow themselves to get hosed but I’d give up a first and a mid-level prospect for him, I suppose. Interesting suggestion as I never really thought he was on the trade block.

Mebbe he’s the Jackets’ Nylander – incompatible with their system – but younger and potentially way more upside. Also potentially way more headcase, and that’s without considering the possibilities of two flaky Russians on one team…

The flaky Russian thing is what makes it possible. His trade value isn’t going to be a normal 6th overall draft pick value. It’s going to be discounted because of the Russian flake perception. We may be able to send CBJ an undervalued (compared to Filatov) package and have them “cut their losses” and just take it. That would be a steal. You know he’d love to play with AO and I’m already convinced he’s serious about playing in the NHL. He’s got skill but admittedly I haven’t watched him much.

You're the reason that I hate Nova Scotia.
