I plan to have a chuckle later on tonight regarding all the Semin chatter after he puts up a 2g, 1a night. Then again he might do nothing but man quick to throw him under the bus after just a single game without Ovie. Guys just need to stop trying to make things happen TOO hard in the offensive zone.
Hope we don’t suck for Theo tonight for all the talk of Varly having issues he’s been solid the last couple outings and has deserved a better fate than he was dealt by the guys in front of him.
It’s not like Semin is going to open any eyes when he puts up a huge game. Everyone knows he has it in him. It’s not like the recent reaction is because he completely lost his game and can’t contribute. I don’t know how to make that clearer.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
It’s not that the point isn’t clear, I just think his positives far outweigh his negatives. We just notice it far more when he has a game like he did in NJ. We wouldn’t bat an eyelash at him getting a hat trick tonight because we know it’s in him, we also know he can take a lot of bad stick infractions. The million dollar question as the crew so eloquently spent time discussing is how to get him to reduce his problems and emphasize his strengths. I think giving him more PK time is a good idea as well to be honest. Take away PP time and give him more PK time.
by Davethecapsfan on Nov 6, 2009 6:08 PM EST up reply actions
I have no problem with people defending Semin, but can we please stop acting like the NJ game was the only time he’s displayed the flaws that detractors are pointing to? One big game will not erase all of his faults, just like it took a lot more than just one game for people to get fed up with the promise of his skill.

C'mon, Dave
Of course all will be forgiven of Seminotaur ( I forget who coined that, but it’s awesome) has a monster night.
But you can’t ignore the incredibly painful context from which the playa hatin’ evolved from – folks have had enough of his boneheaded cavalier-ity.
We need a kickass night of focused whoop ass. Brooks with a hattie tonight, 2 on the PP. Sasha scores a shorty.
I need a bloody drink.
LIke we actually care who gets a hat trick. Anyone would suffice as long as he’s wearing Weagle gear.
A man gotta have a code

I think Semin is to the Capitals what Maverick was to Top Gun. A hot shot solo artist who only workers well with others he deems worthy. He doesnt listen to his bosses, alienates his coworkers, ansd breaks the rules all the time. If it weren’t for his massive potential he’d been sent packing long ago. If only he’d get his head straight and start playing with the team.
Of course, we all know how this story ends…
After an oiled up shirtless volleyball game a lot of Russians get blown up and Semin joins Scientology.
I don't care how you score goals. Pretty or ugly. The ballet or the bulldozer. However you do it, just do it. And make sure you do it more than the other guys.

So I’m watching this Team Sweden tune up game from the Mackan post.
14:40 is a great cycling shift by Mackan’s line (with Magnus Pie-arvi Svensson)
23:40 is a ridiculous cross ice pass to the backdoor D. Very nice.
And this Isles/NJD game just started with a fight within the first minute. Good scrap.

And now that I look back you said Magnus not Marcus. My bad. His line’s defense has been pretty loose so far. I don’t know if they aren’t taking this team seriously or what but they are not tight enough on their checks in their own zone.

I would have to search for a while for a link. If I get around to it I’ll provide one. But basically Louisville sued to make Duke show up because they wanted to pull out of Louisville’s homecoming. Duke defended by saying that Louisville could find a suitable replacement and then basically said that since Duke was so bad any team would be more suitable.

I think that’s just it: it’s not sexy. Big hits, big slap shots, pinpoint lasers, passes through traffic – those are all sexy. For a lot of people I think skating is just something you do.
But in every other sport being a better runner is a trait that people talk about. “You can’t teach speed.” It’s like with hockey there are only two classes of skater: Fast and OMFG Blazing Fast.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
I think it’s easier to appreciate if you’ve played hockey at a higher level. I never played past peewee, so I find it more difficult to compare two competent skaters. The outliers, sure, but two similar skaters is more hazy for me. Just my opinion.

It’s definitely easier the more you’ve done it. That also goes with puck battles on the boards. People think they just stand there and whack at the puck and have no idea how fucking hard and tiring that is.

I dunno, this is something I’ve always appreciated about hockey even though I never could skate myself, and it’s the reason it’s my favorite sport ahead of lacrosse and soccer — I like all the goal-type games, but hockey has the added factor of ice skates. That gives hockey the edges (no pun intended): fast, challenging, and unpredictable.

Not that I ever get to watch Hershey games, but how much of a force must MP be up there? In a league where a lot of guys aren’t strong enough to knock him off the puck he must be unstoppable.
The issue in that league is less the strength and more the skating. Still an advantage for him but I bet there aren’t many D in that league that can even get within stick length of him.
