C A P S CAPS CAPS CAPS.
Let’s get win number two with out the great eight.
One guy just drove his semi as a float. I guess semis are cool.

Someone needs to make sure Mr. Ovechkin’s nachos are replenished and remind him not to throw his arms in the air when the team scores.
IS PAЯTY NOW
I now have DirecTV, any other subscribers know what channel CSN+ comes onto at game time?

Can’t get that, I would fail all my classes if I could watch hockey for 6 hours a night.

You can...
That’s what the internet is for.
by Steckel Me Elmo on Nov 4, 2009 6:03 PM EST up reply actions
I’m not sure if you know this or not but it looks like you’ve got some time to figure it out…tonight is on the normal CSN (HD).
Oh, okay. I thought there was a wizards game tonight that was going to take the normal CSN slot.

So…it’s not just me?
That’s kind of a relief.
FYI—I just bypassed my cable box and run basic cable right into the TV. No hi-def, but it works (channel 57).

Are they great wings, though? Because I want great wings.
by DrinkingPartner on Nov 4, 2009 6:40 PM EST up reply actions
Last I was there the wings were pretty good, but the hot sauce was a bit heavy on the vinegar. I hear tell that some of the other wing sauces are quite good, though.
May I recommend against getting the highest capsaicin level wings? I have an excellent tolerance and they were horrible even for me. Leaking out of every orifice in my face, including my tear ducts, mouth on fire, sweating bad.

That sounds delicious, actually.
And Jesus, Knee High, was it actually an allergic reaction?
by DrinkingPartner on Nov 4, 2009 6:53 PM EST up reply actions
No, I don’t think it was – they were just that hot. My only allergy is to a prescription anti-biotic.
by Knee high to a duck on Nov 4, 2009 7:20 PM EST up reply actions
I htink the best wings locally (and I went to college in Upstate New York, so I have some frame of reference) are at Hard Times, actually.

On the way to The Rock as we speak, but French tourists are holding up my train from NYC.
When I see Ovechkin I’ll remind him to take it easy on all the luxurious amenities Newark has to offer.
I don't care how you score goals. Pretty or ugly. The ballet or the bulldozer. However you do it, just do it. And make sure you do it more than the other guys.

To be fair, The Rock is a wonderful arena. A great place to watch hockey no matter who you root for.
The rest of Newark….just horrible. Like something out of a bad sci-fi 70s movie or the worst parts of DC.

OK, this is all screwy. Looks like we are getting CSN HD version on the DTV CI package. MSG only in SD on 773. Oh well sucks to be Devils fans.
A man gotta have a code
I’m fine with seeing Erskine in, but its with Poti and first game back he should NOT be skating second line min. We saw what happened the last time we did this and it was bad, I’m really worried for tonights game now
Another note, I don’t think things are boding well for Perrault to have a good night tonight. He will probably skate very few min, but with sloan and clark it doesn’t look like he is gonna have much of a chance to succeed. If he does, I will be even more impressed and will definitely join the fan club
Does anyone have any idea why the feed on NHL GameCenter Live is almost ALWAYS the other team’s broadcast?

Looks like plenty of seats to be had at the Rock.
by Knee high to a duck on Nov 4, 2009 7:22 PM EST reply actions
The upper level seats are typically well-populated there. Also, the club seat deal at Prudential Center makes it difficult to tell how many people are in those seats on the sides since not everyone is in their seats, esp. early in a game, but also all game long.
Add in the baseball game and that the Caps return to Prudential Center in a little over a week on a Saturday, this game isn’t going to draw as well as it might have otherwise.
What is this a response to?

How is it that we give up at least one break-away a game?
The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.
I think teams pinch behind our attacking D and fill that gap very quickly. If the opposite D doesn’t cover center field, breaks will happen. We’re prone to the stretch play for the same reason.
That wasn’t a breakaway. But yeah, it happens way too much.
One guy just drove his semi as a float. I guess semis are cool.

I’d never heard of him before last year, but when he was in the lineup, he did everything he was asked. Even in the playoffs against Pitt. He’s not the bruising crease-clearer we need, but my untrained eye doesn’t see how Morrissonn or Pothier is more qualified to be wearing a jersey every day.
Nobody had heard of him until last year.

Looking at that last play in our D zone. One guy fighting 3 Devils along the boards, two guys not covering anyone standing in front of Varly. As expected, we lose the battle in the corner, Devils have all the room in the world to settle the puck as the D has to now shift to try to take away some space.
Is this a player issue or a systems issue. See that all the time and it just seems terrible.
Do we at least get wholesale discounts on HHTs Alex? Jesus.

Turns out he was un-dead. Zombie Semin came back and tried to eat my brains. Luckily I caught him and limited the damage to “one cost game in the standings” and then I took a fucking shovel and bashed his face out through his asshole.

Yup. I know we don’t want to lose assets for nothing but at this point let’s just waive players until we can afford to get Alzner up here. If we have to deal with guys that aren’t great at D let’s go with the one that might actually be better by the time the games don’t mean dick.

Anyone thinking that 6 mil cap space may be better used than on Semin? I’m beginning to think so.

He has been horrible lately. If he’s hampered by an injury to the extent that he can’t perform any better than this, he needs to sit. This is unaccepetable.
semin knows nothing…he doesn’t learn from mistakes and hasn’t stepped his game up from the opening face off. why would he start now?
So much is going wrong I have no idea what you’re referring to.

Semin wins far more games for this team than he loses.
by TFG on Nov 4, 2009 9:44 PM EST up reply actions
It’s Boudreau’s responsibility right now to send a message that taking penalties the way he does sometimes is not OK. Semin doesn’t think it matters if he takes three penalties in a game? Fine, he can play less, and that should go for anyone else on a disciplined team.
Not that Bruce would do it anyway, but you can’t even bench him because no one else is healthy. Of course, there is Nylander…..
Now that would be a message. I would like to see him benched a game, literally. Hang out in the press box with AO. Let that sink in for a minute. If we can afford to call up A. Gordon then do it. Play him on a line with MP and let’s see some guys who want to try before the 55 minute mark.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...

by TFG on Nov 4, 2009 9:55 PM EST up reply actions
You act like him knowing is in the box makes a difference in his play. Do you think he’s going to change his play at some point or do you think this is worth $6 mill?
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Semin is a game changer, and he a contributes a hell of a lot more to this team’s W column than the L column.
You’ll never hear me dispute his talent. But if you pay attention to my arguments about players much at all you know that I value consistency highly. Semin doesn’t have that. He makes terrible decisions and is prone to disappearing acts (injured or otherwise). He’s going to get paid based on his skill and game-breaking talent. I don’t think he’ll produce to that level. You don’t need to simply ask “Is AS a good player?” Yes, he undoubtedly is. You have to ask “Can we pay that performance $6 mill a year when we have so many other players to sign?” I don’t think you can.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Semin’s inconsistency is the reason he’s a $5-6M player and not an $8-10M player. There are nights (like tonight) when he doesn’t deserve the vet minimum, but there are other nights where he’s a $9M player, and that tremendous upside, I believe, comes out more often than not.
I honestly don’t see it being tremendously difficult to keep Backstrom & Semin, along with the rest of the crew (with the assumption that Theodore (not guaranteed) is gone and Nylander hits the minors). Even with Semin earning $6.5M, that’s only a what, $1.9M increase? Backstrom eats up Nylander’s hit. Who of the other RFA/UFAs are earning notable pay raises right now? Fehr? Steckel? Gordon? Not a chance.
Any of the defenseman? Nothing significant, and chances are we drop a couple anyway. Now obviously you have to look beyond just one year, but it’s not as if Varlamov or any of the other kids are playing their ways into Backstrom/Semin-esque contracts right now.
With Varlamov, Neuvirth, Alzner, Carlson, Green, and Backstrom all needing new contracts in the next 3 years I don’t think it’s worth locking up Semin for any extended period of time. I’d also rather trade him now, with one RFA year left so his value will be higher, than just signing him to a one or two year contract and losing him.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
That’s why we hate. He should have played much better. He had to step up. He hurt the team far more than he helped tonight. He fucking killed the comeback with PIMs and he has one chance to redeem himself and doesn’t even put the puck on net. He woulda been beat by a shooter tutor. It’s fair to expect production from players that are better than everyone else. I’m not willing to pay for Semin’s skill if he’s bringing this production. He’s a $6 million talent and doesn’t produce like it.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...

Call me quaint or naive but I think the local sportscast should have a solid 30 minute pre and post devoted to the team. I grew up watching most of my hockey in NY and baseball and football are both hugely popular there but no matter how bad the Rags or Pisles were, and no matter how little people cared about the Devilzzzzzz, they always got at least 30 on the pre and post.

Let’s be honest, Semin is a great player, maybe the second best on the team, and a pleasure to watch. But when he sucks like he did to night he looks like a one man wrecking team out to trip, slash, and hook his team out of the playoffs. I’m not sure what kind of salary his agent considers a “discount” but a player who does that reliably like Semin does isn’t worth much more that what he’s already making
Remere we are all just picking on Semin. We don’t understand his true greatness.
A man gotta have a code
It’s not fair… why is it Semin that gets picked on … always him? I can think of quite a few other teammates who suck far worse… can’t just be the salary issue…
You really think it’s only him?
Because with great power comes great responsibility. Semin doesn’t live up to that.
