10. Will a goalie win the Calder?
Semyon Varlamov(notes) of the Washington Capitals is 10-1-2 with a 2.38 GAA and a .919 save percentage. His winning percentage is going to be absolutely sick by the end of the season, and his numbers could be even better if he's figured out how to prevent opponents from exploiting him on the glove side.
If Tavares finishes south of 70 points while Varlamov has a redonkulous record and the stats to match, the Calder should remain between the pipes for a second straight season. At least that's the thought here.

There are a lot of ifs in that statement. Still to early to make statements like that.
"The Caps fan doesn't say, 'is the glass half full' or 'is the glass half empty'. He wonders when the glass is going to spill."
but but but, the Boston Globe assured me that Tukka Rask is the only goalie worthy of Calder consideration!!!!!!!
Oh well
Tukka Rask can be over-hyped and out-performed by a rookie Cap goalie for the second year in a row.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...

He’s going to have to do something one ups Mason if that’s what Wysh’s measuring stick is. Mason had a spectacular season as he dragged a team to the playoffs. Varly won’t be the reason the Caps make the East’s top 8, so if he’s going to out-duel JT91 for the trophy instead of hoping for the Islander to underperform, he’s going to need numbers nothing short of remarkable.
I don’t think you can compare Mason and Valry on pure numbers alone. Was Mason awesome last season? Undeniably, yes. But Mason also plays in a Ken Hitchcock system, whereas Varly plays in front of a team that has been known to take the philosophy of “Offense first!” a little too literally at times. A smart hockey fan looks at the numbers in context.
