Can someone please explain to me ...

Why Center Ice is giving me the God Damn French language feed for the MON/ATL game. I know there is an English language feed. At least offer both. If you ask me the NHL could use a little more anti-French bias right about now. I swear the NHL has got to have some of the dumbest professionals in the world working in their ranks.

If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...

More salt in the fantasy wound – Gionta with 2 goals.

by Knee high to a duck on Nov 3, 2009 9:48 PM EST up reply actions

I agree they should offer both, but I find the French feed kind of quaint. And it helps me brush up on my quickly aging language skills.

Plus, I love the French names for penalties: Obstruction, Rudesse

Welcome Back Phil Kessel

Just got smoooooked by Ohlund. What a hit.

Yeah, he got railed. Watching the look-ins on NHL network, the Leafs camera crew is amazing. Didn’t get to hear enough of their play-by-play guys, but whoever’s producing that broadcast is on-point in a big way.

Kessel looks a little out of sync to me, but he’s moving fast and making some opportunities. Looks like a matter of time before he starts to score again. He’s backchecking hard, too. At least he is in the look-ins, I can’t speak to the broader game.

by Knee high to a duck on Nov 3, 2009 9:47 PM EST up reply actions

how many Leafs rushed to his defense?

/just gauging truc-o-meter

by bigonetimer on Nov 3, 2009 10:41 PM EST up reply actions

None I think. Perfectly clean hit and the play just continued. Weird.

just saw replay on NHLN…wow. That could’ve set the Leafs back again if it’s another angle on that shoulder.

by bigonetimer on Nov 3, 2009 10:48 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah he came back, though. I think he’s fine. He did shank a good chance late in the 3rd on the PP.

It looked like there was a Leaf heading toward the scene of the hit but you couldn’t see what came of it.

Addendum: this is the first time I’ve had an HD feed for my television. The difference is incredible, even at 720P resolution. It’s a completely different experience.

Anyone who likes hockey enough to read this site owes it to themselves to get HD for the games. Seriously.

by Knee high to a duck on Nov 3, 2009 10:04 PM EST reply actions

I know exactly what you mean, I go from my 61 inch hd tv at home watching the caps to watching on a 19 inch screen and i just about cry every game i watch.

unfortunately, with the economy the way it is, I needed the money for rent. now that my other half is employed again, it might be in the cards.

by RedBirdie on Nov 3, 2009 10:21 PM EST up reply actions

Ah, but now that you’re both employed, this economy means that there are some serious deals to be had. Find a friend with it and watch the game there. I think you’ll be impressed with how much better it looks. Do your research on what to buy before you do anything, be it with a TV or a provider of TV.

by Knee high to a duck on Nov 3, 2009 10:26 PM EST up reply actions

I should add to that, you can often get the providers of programming played off of each other – calling to say you’re canceling service because you got a better deal elsewhere can often get you a discount on your service.

I can’t skate worth a damn, but I bet there’d be more consistent officiating if I were out there. Its out of control this season.

by RedBirdie on Nov 5, 2009 12:04 PM EST up reply actions

Completely out of control. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I just want in-game consistency. It’s like the strike zone in baseball: every ump has a slightly different one, and there are several legitimate ways to call it, all a team can ask for is that you use the same one all game. Give me the first inning or two (period in hockey) to figure out what you’re calling and then keep it steady.

Mr. Bird thought it was uneven, but I saw Wings hanging all over the Sharks, too. A couple ticky-tack calls against the Wings, though.

Its all good, though, because Muppet won the game in the Gimmick. (not the Gimmick part, the “Muppet wins the game!” part)

by RedBirdie on Nov 6, 2009 10:03 AM EST up reply actions

I watched the end of regulation and the Sharks were all over the Wings, and the Wings were fortunate to not get called for any of several bear hugs and hooks.

by Killer_Carlson on Nov 6, 2009 2:16 PM EST up reply actions

that was by feeling, too. But I thought it best to not voice that last night. And I think maybe “ticky-tack” was the wrong word. It was more like “But you’ve let 20 similar penalties go with no call, so why that one?”

Evgeny Kuznetsov hams it up as he joins the Russia men's national team for the "Sweden Games" leg of the Euro Hockey Tour in Helsinki, Finland.

There's a bit of controversy as their game against the Finns is scheduled to be played in Helsinki's outdoor Olympic Stadium. Where the daytime temps are currently approximately minus-15 degrees Celsius, with periodic heavy snow.

This interview with head coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov is fascinating, as he frets about the weather and especially when the reporters press him on the leaked reports that Kuznetsov will be centering the top line for Team Russia, just weeks after his 20th birthday.
