Btw, one of the motivators behind this move has to have been Aucoin approaching the 10-game mark in D.C., after which he’d have to be exposed to waivers on any demotion.

is that 10 games over the season, or 10 games consecutively that gets re-set once he gets sent back down?
Because now I can justify browsing and commenting during the work day with the argument that I am promoting my business.
Cumulative since he last cleared (regular) waivers.

I’m guessing he cleared at the beginning of the season?

Let’s see what the kid can do! I wonder if he plays 4C or W on a more skilled line. Can’t see him pushing Baxter or BMo out but it doesn’t seem like it sets him up to succeed playing him with grinders.

With the checking line getting 3rd line minutes, I bet he centers the 4th line. No doubt with Eric Fehr, once he returns. I’m guessing:
Laing-Steckel-Bradley
Fehr-Perreault-Clark
I’m not predicting things will go well for that 4th line.

Here are the lines per Tarik:
Fleischmann-Backstrom-Knuble
Laich-Morrison-Semin
Fehr-Perreault-Clark
Laing-Steckel-Bradley
All four lines are pretty interesting. There’s a nice blend of skill and grit on the first two.
Why do they keep listing them in that order when we all know that the “4th line” there will get more minutes than the “3rd”?

My thoughts exactly. I think BB is still in love with the idea of 3 scoring lines even if we clearly don’t have the personnel for that right now.

I’m not sure I agree. With Ovi out and lack of a line that can simply overwhelm a defense like the Care Bears line can, I’d have to think that balanced scoring is even more important. Make them pick their poison.

Not sure I consider MP, Fehr, and Clark “poison” except maybe for us.

I sincerely hope you have to eat those words :)

I’d temper that enthusiasm. 4C isn’t an ideal role for him and if he is indeed there it won’t give him much of a chance to show what he can do. Hopefully he gets a little bit of PP2 time so he can play with some skill players, otherwise this is just setting him up to fail.

Seems like the caps have worked hard to put call ups in a position to succeed in the last year. I may be wrong but doesnt he play with Bouchard and Osala in Hershey? While it would be great if he got time with “skill” players, I bet he’ll do ok here and would not be surprised to see Bruce sprinkle him around on the 2PP and other situations as he did with Aucoin, assuming he shows he can handle it.

Very excited for him. He’s been unbelievable in Hershey the past two years. When he’s going through defenders, it’s almost as if the puck were glued to his stick.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – if Bourque had half the talent, skill, and drive Perreault has shown, it would have been someone else on the waiver wire.

I’ll go ahead and take exception with the “drive” comment. Everyone knows I wasn’t heart broken at losing Borque, and I’m a card-carrying member of the MP Lobby, but I have a very hard time knocking Borque’s drive. Everything I’ve seen suggests he has done absolutely everything he could to better his game and crack an NHL lineup.

I’m usually up to snuff on Rink Continuity, but is there something behind your spelling of Bourque as Borque? I’ve noticed you do that a few times lately.
Usually he spells it “Smith”…

Every time Bourque returned to Hershey after a call up he played like he didn’t care. He went through the motions until someone got hurt and he thought he’d be called up again or until the Bears went to the playoffs. I’ll continue on the notion of drive.

I never ever watched him play in the AHL so I’ll defer. This is just the first I’ve ever heard of any issues regarding his motivation or effort.

I saw him play 7-8 times for Hershey in both PA and Norfolk and he was always fiery, to the extent of yelling back and forth at his own coaches.
Maybe play with an edge, be a little more physical -- maybe be more of a prick out there.
The Old Barn Guys always made fun of Bourque for talking and looking like he didn’t care about anything when he was off the ice. On the other hand, they loved him on the ice. But yeah, I thought I heard some rumblings about lack of effort regarding Bourque a few times, and then at other times I heard praise for his effort. Maybe his effort was somewhat inconsistent.

I liked the offense and energy that Aucoin brought to the bottom 6. Haven’t seen that in a while, it seems. I almost wish the Caps had kept him up for the season, but then what do you do when Gordon comes back? Honestly, I’m beginning to wonder if Gordon has a place on this team going forward, but that’s an entirely different discussion.
Bummed to see Aucoin gone, but I’m excited to see Perreault.
Per Corey, gotta rewrite the lines again:
In other news, Eric Fehr left practice early and Bruce Boudreau ruled him out for tomrrow night. Boudreau said he wasn’t sure if the team will call up another forward or play Tyler Sloan up front.
IS PAЯTY NOW
I’m gonna throw a flag on the use of “news” and “Eric Fehr left practice early” appearing next to one another.

relevant quote..
I’ve always been a Keith Aucoin fan and have believed he deserved a shot in the NHL before now. He is up with the Washington Capitals and skating on the third line with Chris Clark and Tomas Fleischmann. Aucoin has five points in his past six games with two of them coming on the power play, despite the fact he is 13th on the team in power-play ice time in that span.
