Good stuff. The final tallies:

  • 11 losses
  • 10 GTG or GWG after a Caps penalty
(Gordon x 2, Green x 2, Knuble (penalty just ended), Pothier, Semin, B. Morrison, Laich, Ovechkin)
  • 3 two-goal leads blown for a loss
  • 0 games where the Caps haven’t led at some point

I suppose that last point is the silver lining on this cloud, but it’d be nice to see this team able to reliably hold a lead.

That’s pale, tarnished silver at best. To me, it suggests that, with the right kind of attitude and tough focused play, the Caps have the potential to be a truly dominant team. And I’m not drinking any kind of kool-aid, I’m just looking at the facts as they present themselves.

I bet the rest of the NHL is thrilled that the Caps are a bunch of headcases. At least then they have a fighting chance to beat the Caps.

There’s a reason why this team has been so frustrating to watch.

Evgeny Kuznetsov hams it up as he joins the Russia men's national team for the "Sweden Games" leg of the Euro Hockey Tour in Helsinki, Finland.

There's a bit of controversy as their game against the Finns is scheduled to be played in Helsinki's outdoor Olympic Stadium. Where the daytime temps are currently approximately minus-15 degrees Celsius, with periodic heavy snow.

This interview with head coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov is fascinating, as he frets about the weather and especially when the reporters press him on the leaked reports that Kuznetsov will be centering the top line for Team Russia, just weeks after his 20th birthday.
