I somehow can see this ending in a 0-0 tie after 36 straight hours of shootout.

total collapse by the Pens—failed PP, man out da box on a breakaway and OTT piles it on. It was awesome, really. I laughed after it went to 5-1.

This Ducks-Lightning game is pretty good. Halpern and Stamkos scored two quick goals right after the Ducks made it 3-0, but the goalies have stepped it up since then. Stamkos’ goal was particularly sweet.

Man, watch the DET replays. Helm’s speed is breathtaking. If he could have lifted the puck a bit…

I had the same problem when I was playing C league ice hockey (back when I was learning how to play ice). I could outskate the league, but I couldn’t shoot an ice puck for beans.. I had to stickhandle a storm and pray for a five-hole, because high shots wanted to go over the glass.

December 31, 1988, in a game against the New Jersey Devils.14 In that game, Lemieux scored eight points and became the only player in NHL history to score a goal in all five possible game situations in the same game: even-strength, power-play, shorthanded, penalty shot, and empty-net.

Both coaches must be livid in this MON/CBJ game. Third period of a one goal game and the game has been end to end and, dare I say, exciting. Why won’t these punks play like this against the Caps?

The past 4 or so minutes of this game have been insane! Talk about being out of position on that last goal by Bergeron. CBJ had like 4 guys in the crease!
I know. That is not sound positional hockey. Coaches hate it but it’s definitely more entertaining than what I expected from these bozos.

They have the potential for greatness in that line, but in scariness you can’t say that line is head and shoulders above Heatley/Thornton/Marleau, Perry/Getzlaf/Ryan or 8/19/28 on their games.
It’s a dandy line and in the picture as one of the truly elite groups in the league but I don’t see it as having differentiated itself from the others on that list.

Fun highlights, all those goals looked like they were scored with authority.
Oshie is awesome.
Also, seriously, Richards does it again.. speeds in, rocket snapshot from the circles, smokes the goalie. He does it every time, and he scores every time. AO really, really, really needs to take shootout cues from Richards.

Anyone watching the post-Thanksgiving afternoon games?
I’ve got the Devs/Bruins on one TV and the Sabres/Flyers on the other.
I’ve got to note that Peters and Thornton dropped the gloves in the NJ/BOS game and within about 10 seconds, NESN had a “fight” graphic up comparing their height, weight, etc. Gotta love hockey.
Also, Kaleta laid a questionable hit on a Flyer. Not sure who just yet. I know Cote went after him and is in the box.
Nothing questionable about that hit from what I saw. Given I didn’t see the full play, just the tail end. I’ll provide better commentary on it when I see a better replay of the hit.

Team Toughness v. Winning Games
Thompson (the same one that kneed Green) did something to piss off PIT today and got himself a PIM. Instead of taking the PP Jordan Staal fought Thompson and got 17 PIM. This was just over 2 min into the 3rd. Staal missed almost the entire third and NYI scored two goals to win the game. Gotta imagine PIT would like Staal out there trying to protect a lead. Great data point for the debate about fighting to stand up for teammates or winning games. It’s a personal judgment call but I think the Staal example highlights it nicely.

And Zetterberg, Lidstrom, and Rafalski combine for one of the most ridiculous defensive failures I’ve ever seen. Never would have expected it from those three. They outnumbered the flames around their own crease 3 on 2 yet still left the guy without the puck wide open back door.

we really need some college hockey in DC. hockey just isn’t the same without a cheap beer drenched student section.
DU-SCS started off good, then SCS got pounded, and then all the sudden came back to life. So, 3rd period is about to start, with Denver up 4-3. This should be good.
Definitely DC needs college hockey. I think GMGM has been helping to push a team at Navy but I’d prefer a school closer to DC. There are plenty of options.

Man, this game is getting real physical. SCS did an awesome job killing off a 3-on-5.
damn, SCS just got ROBBED, and then DU took it down the ice to make it 5-3 with less than 8 minutes left.
SCS, BTW, has a local product, Garrett Roe of Vienna, and back-up goalie Dan Dunn was drafted by the Caps.
