Tarik tweets:
Alexander Semin is out tonight. He’s been sent home to see a doctor, presumably about his sore right wrist.

Get well soon, snezhinka. I guess that means he was playing hurt in Jersey, which :: might :: explain some of the poor play.

Tarik said the wrist has been since the Florida game(s). Didn’t affect him much in the Islanders game, though.

Right. I think this may just be a good excuse for him to sit on the naughty step for a game. Of course, just speculation.

I wasn’t being critical of Sasha, actually. I think it was in the morning skate before that game that they said he was skating with a brace on his wrist. Seemed to do a heck of a job in the game, but I’m sure it doesn’t do anything for the pain.
by gfcaps fan on Nov 17, 2009 5:34 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Rumor has it that the wrist problem is not his only ailment. I also recall hearing that he got cross checked in the back in the overtime Islanders game that we lost and was in some pain. He said he was okay the next day, but I wonder.
As “inconsistent” as Semin supposedly is, he was actually one of the more consistent producers last year and rarely had a game where he didn’t have either a goal or an assist. (He was a more consistent producer than Laich, Flash, Fehr; etc. who themselves are somewhat streaky.)
If Semin goes this long without points, something is definitely wrong. And now that fact is confirmed.
by CapsFan75 on Nov 17, 2009 6:11 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I also heard that the rubber shower mat wasn’t even on the floor and Semin tripped and stubbed his toe.
I don’t care about his points-per-game. I care about his points on a season. If he’s consistently missing 20 games a year then that factors into his consistency as well.

Considering everything that car has put up with (Falling with my into a river, so many washing machine cycles, and the throws it’s survived in the past, a not so strong throw onto soft plastic really, I was surprised.

It was a big combo of both. Poti had a bad turnover, but it was a save you’d kind of expect Varly to make.

There are some good people on Pensblog, but too many people that are obnoxious with their “love and knowledge” of the Pens….which I actually attribute to the fact that those same people are overcompensating for not watching hockey until 2006. They have to make themselves seem like the biggest fans now so nobody questions it.

That Pens website is so embarrassing. I really hope I never come accross that again….
However, I don’t know how you guys even like Dan Steinberg. The Skins suck, the Wizards suck (I’m not sure…I hate basketball, but it seems like they always suck), and the Caps are awesome…..yet he can’t even write about the Caps?
It’s all Skins all the time, then when football season is over, he hops into the Dan Steinberg reserved seat on the Capitals bandwagon.
PLUS, in the articles he does write, he always manages to mention Crosby or the Penguins. He is a hack.

Well all he does is work and he has more speed and quickness than almost anyone else on the ice. If he continues playing like that I don’t see it changing. Off topic rule question
I’m trying to remember when the rules around players entering the crease were relaxed. Several years ago if a player on offense entered the crease before the puck entered any goals were disallowed. At what point did the league remove that rule? Was it part of the rule changes designed to create offense (allowing two line passes, cracking down on obstruction penalties, ect…)?
by lgc on Nov 17, 2009 8:58 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
They changed it and made it more lax after the Brett Hull SCF goal. I’m not sure if they statutorily changed it after the lockout but it’s definitely more lax. It’s one of the things that pisses me off the most about NHL officiating.

Me too. I think you should be allowed to go in the crease but any contact with the goalie is a PIM. I also think incidental contact outside the crease should be legal. You want to limit how far they can go to cut down the angle? Don’t treat them like the whole ice is blue paint.

I’m pretty sure that they officially changed the rules so that a player is allowed to be in the crease as long as that player is not directly interfering with the goalie’s attempts to make the save.
