This could mean that Jose will be out for a while
since they didn’t just call up Holtby to be the bench gargoyle.

Where’d you see Holtby called up?
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
I think he meant because they didn’t call up Holtby like they did last time they needed a benchwarmer for a game.
Well, it could mean that they called him up to play, i.e. “The Caps didn’t call up Mathieu Perreault to sit in the press box.” Simple misunderstanding.

Do I get the gold star for getting it right? ;-)
I see how it could have been misread, but given that the title of the thread says that Neuvirth was recalled, I thought it a little hard to make that jump.
I thought he might have been referencing a Holtby-to-Hershey transaction, which would probably tell us more about Theo’s timetable than the Neuvirth-to-Washington move.

Ah. Would that happen closer to the weekend, then? (Showing that I haven’t checked Hershey’s schedule, just assuming they aren’t playing until then.)
Bears play Friday @Binghamton, then home Saturday v. Springfield. First 5,000 fans get a Ames Services Rally Towel.

Rally Towels Saturday? Sweet!! I’m going to that game!

Yep. Rally Towels!
Also Santa. And animals. Plus it is Scout Night.

Awesome! They never have anything cool when I go there. I just get the helper dogs.

We should form an elite squad with the people i’m going with to go around the rink and personally break every plastic horn being blown obnoxiously.

I hear ya.
I’m going to be herding a parade of teenagers (it’s my friend’s daughter’s birthday) but I might be able to break off long enough to do that.

Not necessarily. Proximity could have something to do with it. Hershey’s a lot closer to NYC than South Carolina is.
According to Tarik, it’s Neuvirth, not Holtby. See CI and my FanShot.

I don’t know why, but the phrase “bench gargoyle” makes me laugh hysterically. +1

Amazing that Googling “hockey gargoyle” doesn’t turn up anything useful.
Japers' Rink: Hockey blogging from the most powerful city in the world
Thats easy to fix, just include it in the Rink’s tagline. Not sure how you would do that, but I’m sure someone creative will think of something.
"I think the relentless negative coverage in The Washington Post is a real difference from previous years," Redskins general counsel David Donovan said. "But in terms of the way our actual fans are behaving, we don't see any difference."

Actually I think that Don Cherry wore that same outfit on HNIC a couple of years ago didn’t he?

I think that is reading way too much into a call-up. Neuvirth is the more logical call-up in terms of experience, earning the call-up and proximity. Neuvirth was injured or just returning from injury the last time a call-up was required, IIRC. Also, Neuvirth’s cap hit is higher, but less than $100,000 more.
Well Holtby got called up last time presumably because of the cap hit difference so he’s not coming out of left field.

I thought he was called up because Neuwirth was just coming back from injury.
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
Health status and the cap hit were factors, but I’d have to look it up again to confirm on the cap hit aspect; at that time, most transactions had a cap factor involved. At the time of the Holtby recall in October, Neuvirth had yet to play a regular season game due to injury and was scheduled to get his first start the same night a backup was required for Washington, IIRC. However, this time with the 2 call-ups it is a different situation, by my math, the only way the cap situation works is if either they managed to get Nylander off the cap or Knuble was put on LTIR.
My response that there was too much being read into the call-up choice is in the context that IMO no way to know if this was a short-term or long-term call-up based on which goalie was recalled. Since then, it appears more likely this is a short-term situation.

That does not change anything with regard to my earlier comments.
Right now, all we know is Theodore is on a LOA and is day to day.
With the cap space available, Neuvirth is the logical recall to the NHL and the domino effect is Holtby recalled to Hershey so that there are 2 goalies for practice and if necessary, for the game on Friday.
Spot on, sk8

Anyone know the cap implications? Does this mean Knuble is LTIRed? Don’t have time to run the numbers myself this morning.

I figured it to be a given. No way is he out less than 10 games. Based on the schedule, that hits the minimum three weeks for him to be out.
looking at the schedule, there’s 10 games in a 22 day period immediately following Knuble’s injury. My guess is the Caps are concerned about the “24 day” stipulation regarding LTIR. If I’m counting right, I think Knuble would be eligible to come off LTIR on Dec. 8, so he could play in Buffalo. If he’s out the full 4 weeks, that puts him at Dec. 12, which is in Toronto. (the Caps have a brutal week Dec. 7-12. Another 4 games in 6 days thing)
Yeah, that made me wonder if his daughter had come down with something…

According to Tarik Tweets
Alex Ovechkin will play tonight.

He has left his teammates some tough nacho eating records to break.

If the NHL was 1v1 with goalies, Ovechkin+(Cutout of a goalie) is gonna be a playoff team, right?

One has to hope that his teammates don’t take his return as an opportunity to dial back their own individual efforts.

Never that! Stecks and Gordo and Knuble can eat nachos in the press box with the best of ’em. Semin too, most days.
SO FЯIENDS, IS BATTLE NOW.
Yeah, we wouldn’t want the best player in the NHL back on the sole basis of the fact that he doesn’t ever pass.

Here’s a big set of kudos to everyone for the respectful tone of these comments I had the same sentiments as to hope all is okay with Thoeo and his family after the year he had as well as a real hope for no bone-headed comments As I scrolled through these I was glad and relieved. I hope that whatever value that has in making him know we all value his play and are as glad to have him here in DC as he was to come when we got spat on by Huet…’Nuff said…

I don’t know, I saw one or two boneheads – and there was one on Kukla’s Korner as well – and the rest of the group curbstomped them real fast. For the most part, the reaction I’ve seen has been respectful, and those who have not been have been squashed.

Good point, they might need Beagle to scrap.
Or beg for scraps, shitty dog pun.

I think you call up either Wilson or Perreault, but not both. Wilson’s more of a skill guy. Beagle’s the designated grinder call up.
