Back from the dead...
Yo, Islanders, I’m really sorry you didn’t get your new arena and Imma let you go back to holding pointless rallies, but the Buffalo Banana Slugs had one of the worst team logos of all time. ALL TIME!
I don't care how you score goals. Pretty or ugly. The ballet or the bulldozer. However you do it, just do it. And make sure you do it more than the other guys.
George Bush doesn’t care about Islanders fans!

The Isles are thin on reliable NHL D; here’s hoping they see something they like from one or two of our expendable guys tonight.

Picks. A 2nd rounder’s as good as a first, coming from them.

Yup. Doubt we’d get a 2 for Mo or Juice but it would be nice.

How about trading Mo and/or Juice along with the Caps’ 2010 1st round pick for Mark Streit? He’s 31 years old and he’s in year 2 of a 5 year, $ 20 million contract. (so this is contingent on Nylander moving)

I’d pass. I like him but that much money at that length isn’t something I like for the Capitals and I expect Alzner and Carlson to be up pretty soon.
Nope. This is going to be a good draft. AsDMG mentioned we’ve got good D-men coming up soon. Last thing this team needs is more vets hurting salary cap numbers. I like Streit but not that much.
A man gotta have a code
It’s funny — everyone always says they want a better #2/#3 D-man, but it’s really hard to come up with anyone who can fill that role, might be available for a reasonable price, and doesn’t break the bank.
Atta dinnin stick a who!

Why do you think this will be a good draft? The last couple years all I heard was that the 2010 draft wasn’t going to be very good.

Lineup, per Tarik
Forwards
Fleischmann-Backstrom-Knuble
Laich-Morrison-Semin
Clark-Perreault-Fehr
Laing-Steckel-Bradley
Scratches: Ovechkin, Gordon
Defense
Morrisonn-Green
Poti-Jurcina
Erskine-Pothier
Scratches: Sloan, Schultz
Goalies
Theodore
Varlamov
Love that third line (under the circumstances)
Also, Okposo’s out sick. You could argue that Okposo’s absence reduces the Islanders’ chances of winning this one more than Ovechkin’s absence hurts the Caps.

I’d argue just that. Add in vet leader like Weight and decent D-man out and there is no excuse not to win this one.
A man gotta have a code
Sorry all, mother-in-law is in town (she’s here through at least Turkey day—I know, just kill me now) but I also need some update on Niles as well since this is the first chance I’ve had get on Japers’ for an update. I’m hoping to see the game but I’m guessing there is some “show” she wants to see… Did I mention this is day 15 of the mother-in-law siege (call it S+15) and the Mrs just happens to be on a business trip to San Diego leaving just the two of us to bond? Just venting but also looking for info. A KLM loan would sure brighten the mood.
XM just said Medvedev and Daley will be in Uncle Ted’s box for the game tonight! Could it be……….. ;D

7:34 – Ovie laughs at a joke by Schultz, presumably about Michael Nylander heading to Russia
7:44 – Ovie appears to be daydreaming. Sources tell me he’s thinking about Skoal.
And so forth…
Oh, and win this game please.
So...
Per Corey:
GM George McPhee says there is no news to report on the Michael Nylander situation.

Never say that. Especially not on this team. Especially for a guy trying to stick on the team. If he gets stuck out on a long shift and gets burned defensively for it he could very well go to Hershey. He doesn’t have the cache to push his luck with his individual shift length. BB just need to keep getting him out there. Seems like almost every shift the Caps end up doing something in the offensive zone.

The guy dives and whines so freaking much. I’ve never seen a goalie beg for calls the way he does. He takes every opportunity he can to flip his mask off and get a whistle to stop play (which sometimes is a safety issue so I understand it, but he has pretty blatantly done it to relieve his D when they are pinned) and in general has a very douche-like quality to everything he does.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Have you watched Chris Osgood before?
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
Not even close. Roloson is way worse. The only guy I could put close is Hasek.

I can’t say Osgood isn’t better than Roloson. Also, wasn’t it CuJo who had the ref fall on him in an argument?
Maybe I don’t know much about Roloson because he’s a shimmering image of mediocrity.
I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.
Yeah that was Cujo (and iirc he had a legit beef). That last line sums it up pretty well. Mediocre goalie on teams you probably didn’t care about (MIN and EDM).

Honestly the distinction between 3 and 4 doesn’t exist for me any more. It did last year with Brash in the lineup. The way each of those lines are possessing the puck and chipping in right now it’s just 2 more solid lines that have stepped up production at a great time.
by Davethecapsfan on Nov 11, 2009 8:40 PM EST up reply actions
Gordo definitely shouldn’t knock MP out of the lineup. The question is whether one of the two can slide over and replace Laing.
Slowest and most limited skill set.

by Davethecapsfan on Nov 11, 2009 8:43 PM EST up reply actions
That’s true. That 4th line has been maintaining a territorial advantage and cycling, but I don’t really consider them a scoring threat. Hard to say MP’s line hasn’t been a scoring threat since he’s been up. Whatever pair he’s with, and wherever on the depth chart, that line produces.

Bradley has chipped in a few just not lately, but Laing has and STeckel is going to light the lamp eventually.
by Davethecapsfan on Nov 11, 2009 8:43 PM EST up reply actions
We’ll see. I’ll reevaluate my position at that time. Bradley has 3 goals and the one was a gift from Osgood. It counts but he hasn’t exactly been an offensive threat on anything close to resembling a regular basis.

I have no problems with Bradley’s production currently. Chipped in a few important ones during the playoffs and is one of the few guys on our team who loves to dump it in deep and really chase it or lay the body on the D. He does his job well. If he’s putting 10 in a year and a few timely ones in the playoffs I’m perfectly happy with that.
by Davethecapsfan on Nov 11, 2009 8:50 PM EST up reply actions
Agreed, but my point was more that I don’t think of that 4th line as a scoring threat. Hence the “3 scoring lines, one checking line” statement.

Re: Gordo vs. Laing
Not that I think either one is that much better than the other, though Gordon may hold a very slight edge. I just know Gordon is going into the lineup soon whether we like it or not. Coach seems to love him. Rather have him replace Laing if it has to be anyone.
Gordon takes face offs and is a much better skater than Q. That makes him that much more valuable so I agree, Q should sit, not MP. Hopefully we have cap space so we can keep Q as the emergency F if someone gets hurt again. Then we can all see him when we need him, he gets the NHL paycheck, and he’s not taking a beating in HER during games that don’t really matter to us.

Gotcha. We’re not even at full health yet where you’re looking at 2 out of the trio of Flash/Laich/Fehr being pushed down to that 3rd line. What could MP do with 2 of those guys on his wing?
by Davethecapsfan on Nov 11, 2009 8:54 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah, they really might be able to roll out three dangerous scoring lines. This team is crazy deep up front.

Well you know 5 out of the 6 top fowards are going to be Ovie/Semin/Backstrom/Knuble/BMo…at this point I would say Flash has earned that last spot in the last 6 but so has Laich. Fehr with MP and the other guy could be quite dangerous.
