Quick Ovie Item

So, the amateur reporter in me picked up some information yesterday from a source I will not disclose, but who was "close" to the situation. Seems that Ovie was getting quite bored watching his teammates pump 5 goals on the Cats on Sat night, so after Campbell's puck to the face, he apparently made his way to the Florida locker room to check on Gregory. (Side note, source said Gregory kept asking to go back to the ice after each sound of the horn in the 3rd.  Dude didn't want a gruesome lip/cheek gash to keep him from helping his teammates).

Is he just trying to lock up another vote for the pearson, or maybe put some face time in with Colin's son so when he goes after Chimera/Boll's head in the next CBus game maybe he gets some leeway?  Either way, classy, Ovie.  One more of the many reasons the next 12 years* will be so much fun.

*-Barring trade/olympic snafu.  I honestly don't think we'll see him play the full contract in Caps Red.

Miami Herald reports:

Gregory Campbell visited with doctors Sunday to see if the slap shot he took to the face Saturday caused in anything more serious than two broken teeth. [Panthers coach] DeBoer said tests for a fracture were negative.

Why you gotta throw in the business about him not finishing the contract, buzzkill?

I definatley see him staying. He loves the town and team, we would never trade him, and i don’t see a career ending injury coming up.

I’m sure a lot of Edmonton fans had the same feeling. It’s sports. It’s a business, and it’s never a good time to say never.

There’s a reason Ovie is respected by his fellow players. Nice to know us Caps fans get the cheer for such a great person.

(I lol’ed about Campbell wanting to get back out on the ice. Classic hockey player!)

Five goal horns in the third must’ve been sheer agony.

At the time I said if he didn’t have a concussion he would come back. I guess the doctors these days are just much more cautious. At least I was right that he wanted to return.

If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...

Hockey Players are Astonishing...

I remember one game where a guy took a puck to the jaw late in the first. He was missing for the second, but he played the third with a football style facemask. It turns out between the injury and during the second period, they sent him to the team dentist who did some extractions and two root canals (all without anasthesia since he wanted to get back in there) while at the same time the equipment guys were washing blood off the jersey and putting the facemask on the helmet.

It was Sergei Gonchar, and it happened back in 1998…. :)

Let's go Caps!

Part of the reason I give Chris Clark so much leeway is because of the shift he had teeth knocked out for the first time but still finished his shift.

The guy has someone else’s bone in his mouth, lost teeth and just about lost an ear for this team. he gets a lifetime pass from me.

The story I remember most about injuries is Bobby Baun. 1964 finals, Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings. Baun fell to the ice and was carried off on a stretcher in the third. He comes back in overtime, steals a pass, and scores a game winning goal. After the game, he finds out he has a broken leg. I mean, it’s insane. So many crazy stories you hear about these things.

I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.

I always think of Mark Tinordi getting his nose accidentally broken by Adam Oates’s stick. Tinordi went calmly to the bench and sat watching the game, expressionless, while they sewed up his face for about 30 seconds, and he then hopped back out for his next shift.
