New 2009-10 Capitals Introduction Video
Anyone else kind of disappointed at the new pre-game introduction video being played at the Verizon Center for the first 2 games?
I have to admit that I was pretty sick of the "rock band" video from last year by the time the season ended (OK, I was sick of it by November), but I also think most of us were pretty fond of the Foo Fighter's "Pretender" opening video from the previous season, so many of us were kinda curious what they were going to for this season.
The heartbeat EKG and flames don't bother me at all, I can dig that I suppose, but I thought the lack of any kind of soundtrack was a bit of a let down. I really like some upbeat, "let's get fired up!" tunes to start the hockey game and get everyone on their feet as Wes announces the lineups, and I didn't get that at all -- this years fanfare just isn't as hyped as we've come to expect the past couple of seasons.
Also, "Unleash the Red"?!? Seems kinda lazy to me, it's just a combination of 2 previously popular battle cries this team has used.
I don't know, it appears quite a bit of production went into the video, and I'm not saying it should be scrapped, but it could definitely be improved upon...in my opinion. What do you think?
H/T to "Your Nation's Capital" for providing a video link.
Update: And here's the video on the Caps' website.

It’s lame. But at least it’s not hairspray and guyliner.

The guyliner was at least funny. This one is boring.

I’ve tried to find a video for those who haven’t had the chance to visit the Verizon Center for a game yet this season. I haven’t had any luck…yet.

I posted it here last week.
And here’s a link to the YouTube page.
The quality is poor but you can get the feel of it…underneath all the screaming.
IS PAЯTY NOW
Thanks—I think that allows folks to the get the basic gist of it. I added the link to body of the post.

Can you edit the title? (Sorry, typos prickle my spine – signed, copy editor) :)
Fight, you time-wasting figure skaters!
Wow! Sorry, they really bug me too, can’t believe I didn’t notice that. It’s been fixed.

I didn’t even know that it was the opening video when it played on opening night. It needs a song to go with it or something…
I’ll probably go back to my timing of getting into my seats right after the anthem.
One guy just drove his semi as a float. I guess semis are cool.
I agree…I kept waiting for a song or some sort of music to play, and it just never really does.

I had that same reaction. I thought it was some kind of opening night prep video. Didn’t feel complete to me.
But I kind of dig the fact that they came out ti Beautiful People after the video
Because now I can justify browsing and commenting during the work day with the argument that I am promoting my business.

That’s one of the all-time great pump-up songs. I used to use that and Guerilla Radio before I’d step out on the mat or before a track and field throw. It worked every time – adrenaline spiked and I was in a state of ill-humor by the end of those two.

It’s funny because I pretty much said exactly what you wrote to my wife last night. The opening is cool with them working out or whatever ( I feel weird saying that) but after that it needs some cheesy hard rock like linkin park to hit it home but it never really picks up.
And agreed on the “unleash the red”. I said to my wife, man they basically just put those two together LOL.
It’s a lot better then the generic NHL one from 4 years ago with the guy getting a massage from the girl…remember that one???
But yea the pretender one from two years ago was awesome and the elevator one the year before was pretty cool too.

I’ll say this about “Unleash the Red” – it’s better than “Rock the Fury” would have been.

Very true…
Fury the Rock! Unleash the Rock! Rock the Unleash! The Unleash Rock! The Unleash Fury! The Red Rock! The Red Fury! The Red Unleash!
It all seems very forced to me now and the crowd only gets into it when they feel like echoing, blah blah Sucks!, horn guy gets starts them, or the Unleash the Fury video comes on.

I agree, it’s okay but definitely needs a song. And not Nickelback-caliber rock like last year—Foo Fighters is much better. Plus Dave Grohl is from DC, so it adds a sort of local flavor to it.
I would say “Banned in D.C.” by Bad Brains, but that would NOT go over well with a mainstream audience…

I think they were going for a more serious tone this year and they got it at the expense of being interesting or fun. As a designer, I was greatly anticipating seeing the new graphics and opener, and I must say I was a little disappointed. It needs to be tweaked up.
Maybe play with an edge, be a little more physical -- maybe be more of a prick out there.
