Reining in @GreenLife52? NHL to place limits on player tweeting
"Following the lead of the NFL and NBA, the NHL said it was close to making recommendations that will prohibit players from using communicational devices for social media activity -- including Twitter and Facebook -- 30 minutes before and after games, practices, meetings and media access periods." - Reuters

I have no idea what you’re talking about (knew I shouldn’t have skipped that cup of coffee this morning!).

I find this funny every time it happens (including once with me correcting my own fanpost)

Those regs wouldn’t really affect Gangsta anyway, his tweets and webpage are sporadic at best.
IS PAЯTY NOW
Yeah, it seems a pre-emptive strike more than targeted at any specific player or incident.

It’s targeted at the team. I GUARANTEE that if Sidney Crosby was on Twitter Gary Bettman would not only allow, but encourage tweeting before, during, and after the game. He may even suggest Crosby tweet during the post-game interview.
If you're after gettin' the honey, then you don't go killin' all them bees.
Actually, the ban is in place because the NHL doesn’t want any competition when they launch Twatter, which will cover Crosby 24×7×365 in 140-character snippets.

Is that really enough to convey the greatness that is Sidney Crosby? Seems like he’s being shortchanged.

it’ll be a 140,000 character minimum. Anything less is insufficient when discussing the greatness of Sidney Crosby!

One of my professors told me about the time he was in the Navy and broke his hand.. and got charged with destruction of government property for it.
This kind of reminds me of that, insofar as sports leagues view their players, and how much control they try to exhibit over behavior, message, etc. Most sports leagues and large volume media sources work well to frame the desired narrative. Giving individual players too much control makes it that much harder for leagues to control that narrative, and as such, would have to be discouraged.
In the end, it’s entertainment, and you’re being sold a story. The primary difference between sport and stage is that the latter has a predetermined outcome, and the former just feels like it when the refs screw up. =)

How about prohibiting agents from social media activity 30 minutes before and after negotiations, press conferences, and arbitration hearings?
