Saturday Caps Clips: Win Streak Gone In a Flash
Your savory breakfast links:
- Recaps and other assorted musings on last night's loss from Corey (blog, article, Capitals Plus), Tarik (blog, article), Vogs, Joe B., Peerless, Ed Frankovic, Cap Centre (and here), John Walton Hockey, Puckhead and Hockey Mom from the Caps' side, and Lighthouse Hockey for a look from the winning side.
- All Hallows' Eve at the Phone Booth, documented pictorially (we'd add these guys). [Capitals Outsider]
- Speaking of Halloween, best jack-o'-lantern you've seen this year or best jack-o'-lantern you've seen ever? [FanShot]
- A month into the season Ross McKeon has the Caps as the League's third-best team. [Y!]
- Alex Ovechkin ain't slowin' down. [NHL.com]
- Vogs on giving up shots in (big) bunches. [Dump and Chase]
- Acknowledging how meaningless "Three Stars" selections are, it's still nice to be atop this list. [NHL.com]
- Despite his hot start, Jose Theodore doesn't appear to be on the radar for Team Canada. [From The Rink, Hockey or Die!]
- Nice look at Jay Beagle. [John Walton Hockey]
- Speaking of the AHL, Michael Nylander had a goal for Grand Rapids last night. [FanShot]
- Happy 37th birthday to Mel Angelstad (the only #69 in Caps history), happy 26th to Steve Eminger, happy 54th to Claude Noel (who?)
- Finally, I know that "Jersey Fouls" are someone else's gig, but indulge us the one after the jump - touching tribute or flat-out foul?

I don’t like it. Feels like exploitation. I don’t think we’d like
Gadaffi Bombed
103
Missile Hit
800
Ruskies Shot
007
Yanks Shot
655
And I’m not a fan of this one. Doesn’t take anything away from what those folks did that day. I just don’t find this respectful. Feels trivial.

agreed
unless the guy was related to someone on the flight…its tacky. i respect the patriotic spirit of the guy, but the medium chosen to represent that spirit is inappropriate. foul.

I think it would be a pass only if it were in memory of a specific individual who had a hockey connection and was on the flight. But if it needs that much explanation, is it worth spending to make the jersey? As a random “never forget” message, I think it’s the wrong format and wrong setting.
As for Halloween costumes, where is the tiny Slapshot baby in those photos?

What, exactly, are we at any risk of forgetting?

Ace Bailey
I am not upset by this, but for a Caps sweater remembering the day, I think a tribute to a former Cap, Ace Bailey, UA flight 175 on 9/11, is more appropriate.
here’s a link for those who don’t know about Ace: http://www.legacy.com/Sept11/Story.aspx?PersonID=91665

Ah, but at Mirtle’s link, Mike Green…is.
IS PAЯTY NOW
According to this article, he’s all but played himself out of contention.

I propose a moratorium on linking to Allan Muir
The guy is a grade A idiot. Did he even read his own list? How can you have 3 goalies in as a lock, and then have more guys “making a case”? How can Cam Ward be one of the guys making a case? He has stunk. E. Staal making a case? C’mon now. That’s just too easy. Ryan Getzlaf and Vinny Lecavalier one foot out the door already? Give me a break. Allan Muir is one of the worst hockey “analysts” I’ve ever read.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...

This from the team that went into the game third in the league at 5-on-5 against the team that was 28th heading in.
If you've read this far...seek help.

I don’t entirely agree. We had two leads in the game, 40 shots, a PP at the end of regulation to ink the deal, but we got outworked when it mattered. I give the Isle a lot of credit—not every loss to an ‘inferior’ opponent automatically means we played down a level. I wish we had had the Isles’ 60+ minutes of want-to tonight.

Before the game last night, one of our seat neighbors gave us a stat that I don’t know where he got it from and whether it’s true. He said that when a team is on the second of back-to-backs and the opposing team isn’t, the team that didn’t play the night before wins about 75% of the time. True? Didn’t give me a good feeling going in to the game, but I still thought they could win.
Greenie and Rolo both had some game-changing boners last night. Hopefully Green will be able to get over it quickly.
And if Flash keeps playing like he played last night, I’m a Flash fan.
Maybe play with an edge, be a little more physical -- maybe be more of a prick out there.
Just got back from Kettler. Started reading the book in line, although with chit-chatting, didn’t get very far. One immediate comment; I had forgotten the forward was written by Don Cherry. It’s quite literate, I assume he had a ghost writer.
Will there be a fanshot thread so people can comment as they get through the book, without lacing every day’s clips thread for them? There wil be a lot.
Go for it. Or a FanPost. I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on the book in an "Official “Gabby” Reactions" thread or something.
