life in the Bird Cage is TEH SUCK.
Mr. B: “Jimmy fucking Howard! 45 freaking seconds!”
Me: “Theo did that last season, remember? I made my peace with it. You will too”
Mr. B: “I’m not making any peace with Jimmy fucking Howard! How much does McPhee want for one of their baby goalies?”
at 2-0, we turned off the TV. Sigh.
I wonder how long we all let this Wings slump last before there are serious questions about them. Sure there is a lot of time left, but last in the division and 13th in the Conference after 10-12 games is a fairly big hole to climb out of.

I may have been a bit hasty in this post…

Yeah someone woke DET up.

But Filppula’s broken wrist will hurt them big time. I’m not one to write off the Wings (as I was born in Detroit), but I don’t think they’ll be a Cup contender this year.
Fight, you time-wasting figure skaters!
When playoffs roll around they will be Cup contenders again. Mark it.

Edmonton isn’t quite able to choke away a huge lead. Once again, the Oilers fall short in this season’s Battle of Alberta.

I love Saturdays when games start at 1:00pm. Even though it ruins my productivity at home…

Right on – which game are you watching? BOS/EDM or PHI/CAR?
I have as many wins in a Capitals uniform as Michael Belhumeur does.
BOS/EDM here. Always like catching the Western Conference teams when I can.

Apparently, Brendan Morrison rolled into practice today wearing a Chewbacca costume and scared the hell out of Gabby. I hope photos come out of that one.

Wow. What a pretty pass from Bitz (I think, no. 60) on that Wheeler goal. Great job in the corner and great pass.

Sobotka makes it 2-0. ’Bout time that game got some offense.

And somehow EDM D prevents it from going 3-0. Real great play by the D. (And I think maybe Paille got that assist, not Bitz, but I’m still not sure).

Someone please to be explaining how Goligoski didn’t end up with a double-minor for his high-stick on Belanger?
On the other hand, incredible game by Niklas Backstrom in net to get the Wild a regulation win in Pittsburgh.

Addendum, Brent Burns was horrifyingly bad in the neutral zone and in his own end. He was supposed to be the next big thing on the blue line, what the hell happened?

I don’t know but I’ve wondered the same thing. He played a little bit of F last year (Move Green to the Wing!) but I thought that was due to blue line depth. Part of me wants to blame Lemaires for killing his offensive instincts but he’s just been dreadful this year (as has most of the team). Maybe he’s just adjusting to the new coach and system? I really like the guy so I hope he turns his game around.

That’s the thing, he looked pretty good in the Pens zone, or at least for the parts I saw. It’s his defensive and neutral zone play that was awful – he was terrible when pressured with the puck and was consistently out of position. ONe would think Lemaire would have killed his offense, but it seems to be the opposite.

Yeah his defensive struggles are the bigger surprise. It looked like Burns was going to be the guy everyone used to measure Mike Green against. Not so much anymore.

E. Staal left the game in the first period with and upper body injury. I wonder whether CAR even noticed his absence for the rest of the game. It’s a classic “if a tree falls and nobody hears it” phenomenon.
