Rink Rat Pick-Up Game: The Good News and the Bad News
The good news pertains to all Rink Rats. The bad news pertains mostly to F&B. Good News: I've called around and gotten the rates for most of the local rinks, so all that's left is selecting a rink, buying the slot, and then playing some hockey. Bad News: I just got out of the hospital and I can't skate for 2-4 weeks because I pinched a nerve in my back (Ha! I don't need core strengthening!). I'm just gonna be honest about this and tell you all I'm not going to organize this whole shindig if I can't play. That means either someone picks up where I left off and you have the game without me; or you all decide to wait until I can play and I'll finish this thing up. If someone wants to pick up where I left off I'll gladly email the information that I've got (rink name, contact info, ice rate per hour). Hash it out in the comments.

sorry about the back! Sounds like me, you, and Sombrero are on the IR together.

Ooh, I been there my friend. Not fun, especially when you’re skating. Especially especially when you can’t figure out what’s going on for like ten months….

Seriously, it’s been like months that I thought I just wasn’t stretching enough. My dad kept telling me I was just out of shape so I kept stretching harder. Then I started playing twice a week and it got worse fast. I’ve literally barely been able to walk the last 3 days. But I am absurdly flexible for my standards, so I’ve got that going for me.

At least it’s not a pinched nerve in your posting fingers.
Four weeks isn’t that long; I’d have no problem waiting.
Maybe play with an edge, be a little more physical -- maybe be more of a prick out there.

Seriously. If I was laid out and I couldn’t get on the rink or The Rink I’d go crazy.

Is this in addition to your possible swine flu?
/thanks for doing the leg work and I too would be ok with waiting since my travel schedule is brutal until after turkey day.

Ha. I dodged the bullet on the swine flu. Not so much on this one.

I'm not a doctor, but I play one on the message boards
Not sure what’s going on with your back and all, but I’ll do the responsible thing and give blind medical advice.
I too have back issues, though it might surface once every two months or more instead of weekly. Basically, my sciatic joint had popped (still does time to time) and if goes untreated, other discs bulge and may pinch a nerve. Sometimes it just strains muscles down my leg or around the hip. One time I bent over to check my chest protector’s snaps at home and I pinched a nerve.
So after trying physical therapy a couple times, I opted for a chiropractor and this one seems to be working (there are lots of different methods to chiropractic care, so if you go this route, do research). BUT, all I did was sit on a table called a Traction Table. You sit there (bring an iPod) for about 25 minutes as it slowly stretches you out.
After the first visit on that, I stood straight up pain free. Worked a lot better than another guy making it worse and having no clue what was going on. (That guy didn’t want to see my MRI slides and the new one did. You can guess which one did a better job.) Anyway … just a suggestion.
I’m still a go for a game. I figure if we’ve waited this many months, what’s another two weeks to a month? Rest up and come play.
