Serious question: After the Lighthouse Project news, why would anyone go see these Islanders? They’re terrible, and they’re probably going to move. Seems like time to start cutting the emotional connection.
Atta dinnin stick a who!
The fan base is very passionate. I actually feel bad for them, and that says a lot. The fans deserve to keep that team, but the local gub’mint is going to fuck it up. Those fans haven’t quit on the team through the Mike Milbury years and now they know they have the last few chances to see the Islanders before the closest hockey is the Rags. I can understand it.

Hey JP — just wanted to let you know about a nice SB update that the rest of you wouldn’t notice. My comments time stamps have always been in Pacific time (because I am). But for the first time, the title of the gameday thread is listing 4:00 PM PDT. Until now I think it’s been 7:00 PM with no designation. Small but nice upgrade.

Because now I can justify browsing and commenting during the work day with the argument that I am promoting my business.
As usual, if going to atdhe.net for a stream, make sure to protect yourself better than you would with a Tijuana prostitute.

A) What is the best measure of protection? (I refuse to wear a bag)
B) If I went to ATDHE without protection what’s the best way to clear up the inevitable “burning when I internet surf”?

Don’t install any “plug ins” or active-X controls if asked. Most streams are clean…but there are some bad ones out there.
I have a 2ndary laptop I use for stuff like this that I can re-store from a backup image if needed, but obviously that’s not a viable option for most.
by PaintDrinkingPete on Oct 24, 2009 6:27 PM EDT up reply actions
Cool. If I just run spy-bot and ad-aware after I go there will that clean up most of the mess?
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Hard to say…I’ve been lucky to have never picked up an infection from ATDHE (or similar site), but I’ve heard accounts of folks that have.
I have gone to streams that have asked me to install extra software or plugins…and I always walk away from them.
by PaintDrinkingPete on Oct 24, 2009 6:34 PM EDT up reply actions
I too, have been lucky to have never gotten burned.
An additional plug in is never something I have an interest in.

To be honest F&B, last time I was there, I got fried bad. Didn’t install anything, but got so many horrible trojans, it almost necessitated a complete computer wipe. And the first things they disables were spy-bot, ad-aware, and malwarebytes.
The first time, I was able to just rename the .exe files that ran those programs to .com extensions, and then they would run. The next time, I had to reinstall into different folders for them to run. And, I had to download and use combofix, which from all descriptions is really a last resort type of option. but it worked. after 12 hours fixing my computer after two visits to atdhe.net for 2 Caps games, I just don’t do that anymore.
by HateOffSeason on Oct 24, 2009 6:45 PM EDT up reply actions
Also, thanks for all the advice to not use Explorer 8. Firefox with adblock and noscript has worked so much better it is not even funny. But I still won’t go to atdhe.net, just not pushing my luck anymore.
by HateOffSeason on Oct 24, 2009 6:48 PM EDT up reply actions
Well, this is interesting. I’ve watched 1 or 2 games on atdhe and I’m not aware of any problems it caused for my computer.
It is always possible it was from something else, but both times it started happening either during or just after streaming a game.
And my wife threatened years ago to chop off my important if I look at pron, so none of my computer infections are from that.

I always recommend Firefox over IE. (I work in IT).
Firefox isn’t malware-proof by any means, but so many more viruses/trojans/etc are written to work against IE’s security holes.

Yeah that’s a nightmare. I don’t have enough computer skills to go through all that. I basically just back up the shit I need and then try to do basic maintenance and keep it running. Then just re-install Windows XP when it’s been over run. Very annoying. Lost a lot of stuff I’d rather not have lost.

I’ve had problems getting access to streams lately anyway…I’ve started wondering if my ISP is blocking it…?
Luckily, I’m safe at home in VA and ready to watch on CSN tonight—although I see they’re listing this as a non-HD game, sigh… I really wish they could get on the ball and get every game in HD, but at least it’s not a CSN+ game.

My Mountaineers won a close one today, and yeah, the TEN/ALA game hasn’t been that good. I’ve been rooting for the upset, but don’t really care about either team that much. I’m good friends with Evan Royster’s family, so I’ve been watching Penn St vs. Michigan as well. Of course, as a WVU alum, I’ll root for anyone that plays against Michigan!

I still remember Antonio Langham ruining Miami’s national championship bid; and I don’t really like LSU or UF. Alabama has the best shot at ruining their seasons so I guess I want to see ALA keep winning, but I don’t really care. Nick Saban is definitely a douche so seeing him lose doesn’t make me sad. Eric Berry is a stud. I really dont like PSU so I’ll never root for them, and I think it’s a blow out right?
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Yeah, PSU is a blowout. I’ve never been a PSU fan either (and I’m still not), but like I said, I am good friends with the Royster family, so I’ll root for him and the team as long as he plays there and it doesn’t interfere with WVU’s success.
To me, Nick Saban is second worse to Rich Rod when it comes to college football coaches I -hate- don’t like.

Urban Meyer runs me the wrong way. I thought the Tim Teebo KO was karma. What the hell do you have your starting QB in the game for when it’s 3-17 in the second half and he was sick to begin with? Douche. Plus, the ol’ ball coach was at UF before that. It’s been a good string of hateable coaches there.

For a #1 ranked team, ALA has given TENN way too many opportunities to keep themselves in this game…and Tennessee has failed each time (although I have been flipping around a bit, haven’t watched entire game). I don’t mind a close, defensively driven game, but this has just been boring.
by PaintDrinkingPete on Oct 24, 2009 6:36 PM EDT up reply actions
I don’t mind close defensive football (Steelers fan) but this is more “inept offenses” than total defensive domination. ALA has a real good D but I don’t think their O is going to let them beat UF or the other teams that can score and play D.

True, but that seems to be their MO against “weaker” teams…Too many quick long shots taken from the point or long-distance. Makes the shot total look good, but doesn’t usually result in goals, especially when there’s no one up front to collect rebounds. Just my opinion.

I’ve reached the end of my rope with the first PP unit of the Caps. I do not want to see that group together for a while. Or at least not on the next PP. Suggestions: put Poti at point, put the “current” 2nd line in, and add Knuble. (Okay, he is a first liner but he’s been separated from the others.)
2nd unit — well why don’t we try our “normal” 4th line, plus AuCoin. And Pothier.

Another shorthanded goal!!! Ovie & Green should not be on the PP until they get their act together. No shots on goal for either one! Wish they’d give Giroux & Aucoin a chance on the PP. Puck Daddy apparently wrote about Richards not talking to the press. And the fact that Richards, Carter, and various people partied alot. Talked about the fact they’re not disciplined; etc.
Gee, that sounds like our boys. Substitute the names and it sounds like our story.
Our boys don’t party like that and they aren’t dirty or whiny like that.
I was never the guy calling for Richards to be a Cap. I hate that guy and I maintain that. I even commented on that PD article in the Caps Clips the other day.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
I’m a Pens fan, so I’m obviously biased….
But watch Mike Richards sometime – He whines and cries more than Crosby does. His mouth is yapping to the refs every whistle. But, as Regis “Pierre” McGuire points out, Mike Richards is just showing leadership and being a competitor
Ha McGuire looks like aturtlepenis.

I’m with you. I have said on this site, on several occasions, that Mike Richards is the whinier, divier, dirtier, more obnoxious Captain from PA.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
That’s refreshing to hear someone with the same beliefs….who lives outside of PA. I hate Mike Richards more than any other player in the league. Crosby is aware of the criticism, and he has put the diving and much of the bitching behind him….Richards will never have to hear the same criticism, because everyone will just keep fawning over him
Haha, this is where we diverge. Crosby is way more revered than Richards, though Richards does get tons of passes in the media. I still think Crosby dives, and has some seriously bitch retaliatory PIMs this season, but he has gotten better, I’ll agree. I think he’s more self-conscious about the whining than Richards because it was such a big deal when he was younger.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Crosby has a lot more backlash than Richards, which is understandable since Crosby was the NHL’s Golden Boy.
I think Crosby complains more than he dives. He has really toned that down. Does he still dive or embellish? Of course. But there is not one NHLer that doesn’t try to buy a penalty.
In the Caps series last year, I don’t recall Crosby diving once. I do recall a nice gem by Ovechkin at Center Ice (phantom high stick, with the pirouette).
As for Sid’s retaliatory penalties….yea….he needs to tone those down. But because of who he is, he also puts up with more sh*t than anyone else in the league.
But Sid has shown a willingness to fight. If you are mad then fight a guy, don’t whack him with your stick, that just makes you look like a spoiled brat.
With the diving, I’m thinking specifically of one against PHX this year that was so bad even Errey and Stagy called him out for it. You know those guys, for them to say that it had to be bad. I’m confident that shift for shift Sid dives more regularly than AO. Sid is far to strong on his skates (one of his biggest skills) to go down like he does sometimes. I have the same complaint about Kovalev.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Yeah, I understand. There have been times where Sid has tried to fight, only to be turned down (see: Marc Savard last year when Sid even took off his visor).
Sid does embellish more than OV, no question.
I hate when Sid gets pissed and whacks a guy. It is my biggest complaint about him. Although, I would rather him take those 2 mins in the box then break his hand in a fight.
Steigy and Errey are on the same level as Laugher (Locker?)….I can’t stand either one of the three. Pens feeds need Mike Lange back, and Comcast needs to get right of Laugher.
But NHL on the Fly doesn’t invite Locker. I hate it when Errey is On the Fly. Guy just cannot be objective.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Objective or not objective, Bob Errey is an idiot. He shouldn’t be on NHL on the Fly based on that alone.
I have a compuuter program that syncs up radio feeds to TV feeds, and I listen to Mike Lange.
P.S.- If Errey is no longer on NHL on the Fly, then I don’t think Beninati should be allowed to do Versus games when the Caps play. Drives me nuts.
Really. I think Joe B would be more palatable for non-Caps fans on VS because he can’t homer. But I dunno. I’m so used to him.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
Fair point about Joe B (love him, though), but it’s amazing how he manages to put away the home team love on national broadcasts.
He is palatable 90% of the time, but he has a tendency to gush. I will admit, I am probably being too hard on him. He is in a different league than Errey and Laugher, and that’s all that matters.
One fan on the Caps Insider blog claims he’s partied with Ovi and Semin in thee past and that they were out at a club several days this week, starting on Saturday and going out on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
I’m a bit skeptical of that tale, given that Semin didn’t practice on Monday but practiced on Tuesday and has been out ever since. Somehow, I doubt if Semin would have had any “juice” to practice on Tuesday if he had gone out Monday night.
I blanched when I drafted him and I don’t want to win because of that play. But yeah, he’s got a huge game for me so far, but that and Seto basically guarantee you ATOI. This is going to come down the our goalies and goal scorers.

I think Semin’s absence is really noticeable today. Not the same team at all without him. Not that it’s the only factor in this performance.
I just have a feeling he’s not the only one sick…just the only one sick enough to not travel with the team.
by PaintDrinkingPete on Oct 24, 2009 8:51 PM EDT up reply actions
That would explain a lot. Many of the guys look like they’re sick and/or hungover. That said, this one ain’t over. The Isles are pretty bad.
I miss Semin too. And everyone keeps calling for him to get traded. Look at the power play the last two days. Negative one, without him. Yes, negative one.
Here’s what we have to look forward to when Semin is gone. Negative one on power plays. And remember the game against San Jose last year.
Over? Did you say “over”? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
And it ain’t over now. ‘Cause when the goin’ gets tough… [pause] the tough get goin’! Who’s with me? Let’s go!

Yeah. Good for the Panthers for at least sorta trying to play actual hockey. The Caps haven’t been as strong in the third as the Pens were either.

This felt like an important win. They really had nothing tonight and somehow managed to pull off an awfully impressive comeback, even if it was against NYI. They can build on this.
Amazing come-from-behind win. Loved Tambellini’s goal, too.
But Brawndo's got what plants crave. It's got electrolytes.
Three stars:

I would not be surprised either. Hope to see Semin back Tuesday. (He’s been sick for awhile.) I hope that the report of one fan is wrong. This particular fan claims he’s seen Ovi and Semin out at a club not just on Saturday, but Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday as well.
