And yet BJ has looked good. Looks a lot like when PIT played PHX (BJ’s only other start) in that the team just isn’t skating or helping him at all.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
And the worst PIM in hockey strikes again. The “slash” when a player drops his stick. I swear the Pens have this move down. Breaking the stick is one thing but when the guy drops the stick during a legitimate puck battle that should absolutely not be a PIM.

And off-off topic, at the end of two periods, Nylander has two assists and the Griffins are all tied up at three.
Lookin’ good, Nyls!

I just had to endure 20 minutes of anti-Schultz talk in the Mt. Vernon locker room after a stick n puck. It was fucking brutal. They were going on and on about how he sucks and they’re glad he had a ‘kinda good game’ so maybe now somebody will trade for him, blah blah.. the conversation changed to ‘how did the Caps win that game last night? They fell apart so bad!’ Somebody piped up and said, “They won because of JEFF SCHULTZ.”
It was great. The assheads then started asking each other what a winger is supposed to do in the defensive zone. They don’t know this.. but they know that Schultz is a terrible player!? WHAT?!
HEAD EXPLODE!
Maybe play with an edge, be a little more physical -- maybe be more of a prick out there.

Tomorrow night, I’m thinking these are the closest to locks:
VAN beats TOR
WE beat NYI
PHI beats FLA
Anybody disagree? Discuss.
Maybe play with an edge, be a little more physical -- maybe be more of a prick out there.
I don’t think there’s such a thing as a lock these days, but that looks pretty solid. I need big games out of my Canucks and Flyers, so I hope you’re right.

oh, and the Kitty Cats have been playing their asses off in front of him. Just busting the Penguins all night long trying to wear them out. Watch out, this is a team that knows how to play every freaking minute.
(Kitties taking Waddlers to SO now)
Just caught the OT on stream, it looked pretty much all Pens.

Pens were well-rested for OT; no one but Johnny played the first 50 minutes. The Penguins did not deserve to win that game.
Pens were flat in the first and FLA capitalized, could have been worse but for BJ. Second was even. Third PIT dominated. Both goalies were great.

yikes, Mike Richards knocked out David Booth with this shoulder to the head:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_daddy/post/Florida-s-Booth-taken-off-on-stretcher-after-Ric?urn=nhl,197986
Dirty?
Tough call. It wasn’t very late; not as late as Stevens on Kariya. Booth was definitely watching the puck, which he shouldn’t have done. But I do think Richards aimed for the head. Just the way he falls forward doesn’t look like he was trying to hit him center mass, and that’s my problem with the hit. Of course, I hate Mike Richards and am loathe to give him the benefit of the doubt, so it’s easy for me to see a headhunt. It wasn’t as bad as the first time I saw it, which was in slow-mo. Live action it’s pretty quick.
If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...
I was half-expecting you to vote that we draw-and-quarter him at center ice as part of the intermission entertainment on Tuesday.
Live action vs. slo-mo brings up an interesting point:
ugh, finish reply before hitting post!
Live action vs. slo-mo brings up an interesting point. When reviewing hits and other infractions for additional discipline, I wonder if the NHL uses slo-mo or not. Assuming, of course, they actually review such things and don’t just whip out the wheel o’ justice.
Well I’d think they would use slow-mo to see exactly what happened; what made contact with what. But you need to use live action to determine if it was late or not, and the context of the action.
Richards is 5’11" and Booth is 6’. Booth was basically in an upright skating stance so he wasn’t leaning his head down to shoulder area. Physics and fundamentals dictate that Richards should have put his shoulder right into the middle of Booth’s chest, but somehow the shorter guy gets the taller guy right in the head with his shoulder. That doesn’t fly with me, but I haven’t checked the MS Paint yet.

I try to be objective about it. I think his hit was far dirtier than AO’s slew foot, so he should at least see a fine. I doubt it though. He got all those PIMs so the league won’t feel a need to punish him anymore. I’ve watched a few more times and I do think he was intentionally going high.

Yeah it was a good no call, but I think this is one of those clean hits that does deserve a response. It wasn’t a face to face open ice hit where the guy gets right up. It was a dangerous and awkward hit into the boards. IMO if it is even questionably an illegal hit the players should be allowed to challenge the hitter to a fight; if it’s clearly just a big legal open ice hit that’s when I get pissed when a fight “has to go down.”

Lee Stempniak wants to get in on the “I can kill a vulnerable player” game. Not sure I’d call it an illegal hit, but he definitely punished Marchant. If ANA clears either of those two-three chances they had then that never happens.
And notice that Special Nieds was the guy to step up and stick up for Marchant.

an awful call right there, made from the ref 40 feet away from the play. Do refs get fined in a kangaroo refs court or something, ’cause that is fine worthy.
from the house that Red Jesus built
That was a pathetic call. But that’s not the reason ANA is getting smoked. I wonder what ref discipline is like; the NHL is pretty vague on how they do it (no shock). Like I said earlier today re: player respect: If the NFL is doing it better, then you need to ask yourself some questions as a league. I absolutely hate the backside ref calls on plays like that. The NHL absolutely has to figure that out.

holy crap, Special Nieds losing it a bit—left his feet and hit Grabovski in the head. ANA falling apart at the seams totally frustrated. I’d be pissed too at that stupid call, though.
from the house that Red Jesus built
I didn’t think Special Nieds left his feet, and I thought Grabovski kinda ducked into it. Definitely a high hit but I didn’t think it was ridiculous. ANA just looks like crap tonight.

Me, I’m still riding that giddy high of watching the Caps beat the Flyers, so I just don’t really care about his Wings angst tonight. Wings fans don’t know angst. Angst is being a Caps lifer. I know angst. Jimmy Howard as your goalie? No, that’s called piss poor goalie development.
And yet the Wings are winning. Mr. Bird should have stayed up.
