Caps recall Aucoin?

"Keith Aucoin and Jay Beagle both practiced at first-line center Wednesday with the Hershey Bears, and then Aucoin left practice early. ... In light of the injury situation in Washington, the guess is that Aucoin was recalled to the Caps. But there was no official confirmation of a transaction in Hershey. ... The Caps, according to the Washington Post and Washington Times, may be poised to recall two forwards. If they take two, given his hot start, Alex Giroux would seem a good bet to be a second forward recalled."- The Patriot-News

Well, if Semin is one of the forwards out, perhaps. The lines from practice look like this, per @cmasisak22:

8-19-22
21-9-16
14-92-17
53-39-10

So, if this is correct, we could be looking at a third line of 33-20-17? Knowing that Nylander is unlikely to play? Uuuuuhhh….

That said, if this holds – Fehrsie gets a line bump. He better make the most of it.

Not sure why they wouldn’t flip the 3rd and 4th lines (they do anyway when it matters) and put Sloan in at 4L, assuming 4 or 26 can go. Why call up another F to get 8 minutes? But we shall see…

The only reason I can think of is to try and get some secondary scoring kickstarted, and i have no idea how effective that would be. Laing’s put a bunch of shots on net, but hasn’t hit the twine yet.

As for 4 or 26 going, I think Corey said that ShaMo’s ready to rock, Erskine not so much.

I have no idea – I’m not the coach.

Makes sense. Maybe this is the time Giroux does something in a recall. I’ll be holding my breath.

Brought over from the start of this discussion — If Andrew Gordon is third player on that line, and he’s also having a good start to the season, is he a possibility for that call up, rather than Giroux?

depends if they have completely given up on Alex3

by ns on Oct 21, 2009 1:39 PM EDT up reply actions

I don’t think there’s anything to give up here – he is what he is. The only question is if that’s what they want to plug into the lineup.

I wonder if they might ask someone to drive from Hershey but not formally call them up, just so there is a little insurance if someone is injured during practice or if both ShaMo and Erskine are out.

Osala hasn’t done anything yet this season (0 points, -3 in six games), so I doubt they’d reward him with a call-up.

by J.P. on Oct 21, 2009 1:32 PM EDT up reply actions

If it’s not a veteran I say Beagle or A. Gordon. A. Gordon has earned more time with both his pre-season play and his early season AHL production.

If consequences dictate the course of action, then it doesn't matter what's right, it's only wrong if you get caught. If consequences dictate the course of action, then I should play God...

by Rob Parker on Oct 21, 2009 1:35 PM EDT up reply actions

I’ll agree with the Gordon call up – not so sure about Beagle. He looks “off” so far this year, like he hasn’t quite gotten his legs under him yet…

Giroux has actually been playing pretty well on both ends of the ice. Almost as if he wrote down the speech Boudreau gave him when he was cut from the Caps and reads it each time he takes the ice in Hershey – so where as last year, I wouldn’t have given him a look – this year I would. However, when you put a guy like Giroux who’s so used to 1st line ice time and finesse guys around him, with 3rd and 4th liners and give him 3rd and 4th line ice-time – he can’t adjust. Its like he has some mental block or something.

My thought is, if the Caps are looking for someone to score who doesn’t reside on the top two lines and brings a physical element (if they are indeed calling up two forwards) – why not Pinizzotto? He only has one goal, but his assists category would be through the roof it Osala could buy a goal (poor guy has hit both posts & the crossbar countless times so far this year). The other plus – he’s cheap!

yes, too early, Andrew Gordon is a much more logical choice for a call-up based on training camp, early season play, and cap hit.

FWIW, based on my notes, those 2 (Osala and Beagle) combined would not fit under the cap even using the LTIR for Fleischmann and the Backstrom bonus cushion space. (nothing official just my attempt to figure out who fits.)

I’m thinking that the plague and traction would sideline these guys for 10-games/24-days, so they’d be LTIR-eligible and the team could call up Osala and Beags if they wanted to.

Also, it is possible an official recall of Aucoin does not get announced by the caps until tomorrow, even if he does travel with the team or meet them in Atlanta. He did not practice with the NHL team today so no need to make the recall official until tomorrow.

From the boss himself:

Get yourself an avatar (if you need help in doing so, reference the Welcome Guide). It helps to differentiate you from everyone else in a way that’s not as annoying as numbering your sentences, typing in all caps, etc. There are tons of great examples, but Sombrero Guy’s, ns’s, Wisper’s and Uncle C’s are among my favorites. Just keep it (relatively) clean.

So come on Richard Dawson, let’s get an avatar, put the women and children to bed and go lookin’ for dinner.

Evgeny Kuznetsov hams it up as he joins the Russia men's national team for the "Sweden Games" leg of the Euro Hockey Tour in Helsinki, Finland.

There's a bit of controversy as their game against the Finns is scheduled to be played in Helsinki's outdoor Olympic Stadium. Where the daytime temps are currently approximately minus-15 degrees Celsius, with periodic heavy snow.

This interview with head coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov is fascinating, as he frets about the weather and especially when the reporters press him on the leaked reports that Kuznetsov will be centering the top line for Team Russia, just weeks after his 20th birthday.
