Update (12:25 PM): Not so fast, my friend. Per Tim Leone:
Joe Finley didn't practice with the Hershey Bears Friday at Giant Center. The winger may have been sent to South Carolina (ECHL), but there has been no formal reassignment announcement.
Update (8:28 PM): Per @TimLeone:
Finley has indeed been reassigned to South Carolina (ECHL).

Twenty-seven is obviously unmanageable, especially with Kane on his way back down before too long. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few more cuts by November. But at least the AHL has the luxury of roster rules that let you take your time with that.
I really do like having Gus here instead of the SEL. The Caps are committed to his development in a way that a team that knows it’ll lose him within a couple of years won’t be. Let him fight to make the active roster with Aucoin, Perreault, Wilson and Beagle ahead of him. Gus requires a lot of patience, and Hershey is a good place for that.

not to mention the added playing time he’s sure to get over SEL

Interesting that the highest jersey number is #36.
Glad to see Gus make the team.
Learning a new position, you have to wonder if the ECHL is better for Finley.
Is Godfrey officially a bust with a big point shot?

perhaps trade deadline side dish is a better view. Some team will take a chance on a guy with a shot like that and WJC experience

More like Lepisto (in terms of return at this point)

Unfortunately I think you’re probably right. Godfrey has proven he isn’t that good, which Ruth hadn’t done yet (at the time of the trade).

Anybody care to draw up a quick mock depth chart? I’d do it if I wasn’t at work..
Maybe play with an edge, be a little more physical -- maybe be more of a prick out there.

Nice job. I think we all want Bouchard where he is but the way he played this summer I think he’s probably a couple slots lower.

With Bourque gone, there’s actually not much depth at wing there, at least when it comes to scoring. I loves me some Andrew Gordon, but I don’t want him on my second line in the NHL or AHL.
With the ridiculous depth at center, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Perrault move to wing. That solves a few problems at the same time. (I think Joudrey has already played some wing)
Osala – Aucoin – Giroux
Perrault – Wilson – Bouchard
Gordon – Beagle – Kane
Sugden/Joudrey – Gustafsson – Pinner

is Laing going to get pushed back to Hershey when Fehr and Flash are both back? That would help with their winger depth.

But not goal scoring; they’ve got some checkers but not many finishers.

Yeah I could live with that, and I’m not really disagreeing with you. I’m more pointing out Bouchard’s lack of development. I think they have enough offense up front, and a ridiculous D corps (for now) that they will still be a regular season powerhouse. We’ll have to see what kind of depth they have when it comes time to defend their Cup. who knows, maybe Bouchard being forced into a bigger role will help him develop his game, but I’m not counting on it. I can’t understand how a guy that has trained the last 3 summers with NHL players hasn’t developed his game more.

Hershey is certainly loaded with French descended players. (Okay, that’s nothing new.) Still, there’s Aucoin and Giroux on the first line. On the second line, there are Perrault and Bouchard on the wings. I assume Joudrey (on the 4th line) is of French descent — it sounds like a French last name.

I hope Alzner and Carlson will be ready for the Caps by next year (if not sooner). Methinks, next year’ll be time to clear some space in the blue line for them.
So, Hershey will have the guy I call “Mouse”; i.e. Miskovic. They’ll also have Bacashihua who’s been called “Cash” but who I call “Chihuahua”. And Patrick McNeill, who was born on St. Patrick’s Day.

I’m not necessarily saying clear space for Alzner or Carlson. At the moment we have 8 NHL caliber D-men on our roster. Since the team’s yearly cap hit is calculated daiy, the Caps would ideally have no more than 1 spare D on the roster, and call up waiver exempt fill ins as needed. The more space you have under the cap early in the season exponentially increases the space for moves at the deadline.
