I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.

I hit a bit of a speed bump this week, but my dominance reigns supreme.

Don’t worry, I’ve got a new team name to better reflect what I will be doing to the rest of the league.

And in honor of the Labre Division’s dominance I have updated my Avatar.

the ice: 2nd in goals, 3rd in assists, 1st in plus-minus, last in HITs. what can i say, we aspire to the red wings model.

also, shout out to the hunter division. 4 of the top 5 goal-scoring teams overall!

while we’re at it, dubinsky is riding my guy’s coattails! good pick-up, though. i would never have guessed he’d end up as 1st line center.

Yes. Jamie Benn strikes fear into the heart of F&B. You’d be better off if the week ended right now because there is no way I’m letting you have ten points when this is over.

by Rob Parker on Oct 19, 2009 2:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Kid can play, but yeah. Not real happy he was the best of what was available after autodraft got finished. Cam Barker probably doesn’t have you quaking, either.

by Knee high to a duck on Oct 19, 2009 2:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Cam Barker did come up with a GWG last week… too bad our league doesn’t count those.

If you're after gettin' the honey, then you don't go killin' all them bees.

by Rob Parker on Oct 19, 2009 2:17 PM EDT up reply actions

ideally i’d like to see the league count PP points, not PP assists. but otherwise i’m a fan of the scoring system. GWGs are too flukey for me, especially when they come at 1-1 in the first period.

by Natty Bumppo on Oct 19, 2009 2:27 PM EDT up reply actions

by Natty Bumppo on Oct 19, 2009 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions

PPGs are singlehandedly holding my team near .500. Don’t hate.

by Knee high to a duck on Oct 19, 2009 2:31 PM EDT up reply actions

You’d still get those. I’m with Natty. I also think it’s criminal not to count SHP.

If you're after gettin' the honey, then you don't go killin' all them bees.

by Rob Parker on Oct 19, 2009 2:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, but they double count, do they not?

I agree on the SHP, in large part because I have Mike Richards.

by Knee high to a duck on Oct 19, 2009 2:51 PM EDT up reply actions

they double count. just think it would be better to double count assists while we’re at it. shooters are still favored by SOGs. in this format (especially with ATOI), ovechkin’s team really should never be below .500.

by Natty Bumppo on Oct 19, 2009 2:55 PM EDT up reply actions

AO’s team is 2nd place. Behind MAF’s team. Sounds familiar.

If you're after gettin' the honey, then you don't go killin' all them bees.

by Rob Parker on Oct 19, 2009 3:00 PM EDT up reply actions

And thus far, +/-. He’s been great in goals, assists, points, shots, ATOI (more commensurate with a defenseman) and +/-. You know the PPG part is going to come around, but Jesus.

by Knee high to a duck on Oct 19, 2009 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions

I believe in the season wrap up, we’ll discuss new rules/any possible changes(/maybe a keeper option?) but we’ll address it then. I kind of put everything together in a rush, and while pleased with how things have gone, there’s a lot I feel we can do to improve the league, and I’m really glad that everyone’s so into it.

I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.

by Whiter Mage on Oct 19, 2009 8:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed. It came together fast and I appreciate that you did it so I don’t want to bitch too hard but there are definitely things that could be improved.

If you're after gettin' the honey, then you don't go killin' all them bees.

And, to be honest, when we do talk about what to change, don’t feel anything is sacred. I can take the criticism (lols sometimes don’t hurt my feelings).

I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.

by Whiter Mage on Oct 19, 2009 8:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Well it’s not personal, at least not from me. I think you said you used ESPN default settings so I just transfer my frustration back onto ESPN for being so terribly inept at all things hockey. I’m never going to forgive them for this Kopitar bullshit. Seriously guys, you fucking suck. They had Kopitar ranked lower than Rob Schremp. Fucking pathetic. But hey, I almost got the steal of the draft when I picked Glen Wesley in the final round. I feel a comeback…

If you're after gettin' the honey, then you don't go killin' all them bees.

by Rob Parker on Oct 19, 2009 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions

Lol yeah. The default settings were kind of meh, and I personally don’t like the ATOI category (I feel a different category like hits or another goaltending category would be better), and if you didn’t make the draft, you were basically humped.

Next year I’d prefer an in person draft if there’s more time to put it together – but anything could happen.

I'm so sick and tired of the refs explaining the calls like this is the NFL.

yeah. Erik Johnson maybe, just maybe should have been ranked higher than 896.

In all seriousness, I think he has a real shot to finish in the same neighborhood as Tavares in points and goals this season. Of course, I dropped Michalek to get him because in the OTT footage I saw, he looked awful. The very next game he potted the Hat-Trick with 2 SHG.

Setoguchi produced for me tonight, too. The Sharks spanked the Rangers.

I have Gooch in another league so his performance took the sting off. But yeah, you’re out to a fast start.

no interest in samuelsson, but i’ve posted to the league board both rangers i’m shopping right now:

1) del zotto: 3 G, 2 PPG, 5A, +3, rangers PP QB.
2) sean avery: injury all better, scored 2 PPG in his second game back, and just today promoted to the second line.

He was your best SOG guy, but you probably weren’t going to win that category anyway, I’m really heavy on that.

Fleury is going to win you at least 2 out of the 3 goalie categories and you’re going to win assists. You’re in pretty good shape if my players keep performing as they have been.

by Knee high to a duck on Oct 21, 2009 9:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Evgeny Kuznetsov hams it up as he joins the Russia men's national team for the "Sweden Games" leg of the Euro Hockey Tour in Helsinki, Finland.

There's a bit of controversy as their game against the Finns is scheduled to be played in Helsinki's outdoor Olympic Stadium. Where the daytime temps are currently approximately minus-15 degrees Celsius, with periodic heavy snow.

This interview with head coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov is fascinating, as he frets about the weather and especially when the reporters press him on the leaked reports that Kuznetsov will be centering the top line for Team Russia, just weeks after his 20th birthday.
